Swim
Comments: Had a great start ,felt nice and smooth throughout the swim, rounded all the buoys close ,I stayed on course, had a hard time spotting after making last turn due to the sun glare. Course could have been a little long because looking at others times there wasn't many that low..Felt good after exiting the water. What would you do differently?: Not sure why my swim was this slow, was five minutes slower than last year, try and get more swim time in before next event. Look into getting a coach to look at my swim technique. Transition 1
Comments: T1 went very well, was able to get in and out with no problems.. What would you do differently?: Get some better rubber bands to hold bike shoes on bike, mine broke during setup but was still able to leave shoes on the bike. Bike
Comments: Started out with a great pace, was able to take the hills with no problems, able to let it hang out on the flats..Bike average last year was 19.14 so have made great gains this year. After 30 minutes in sipped on my aero bottle that had a hammer heed with water mix. Overall good bike leg. What would you do differently?: Just continue to train so I can maintain a higher average for the whole 40k.. Transition 2
Comments: Was able to get out of shoes with no problem..Racked bike, shoes on helmet off, grabbed visor and racebelt. No problems.. What would you do differently?: Learn to jump off my moving bike better.. Run
Comments: Got into a nice pace, a couple of people passes me in the first half mile, was able to keep them in sight then over take them around mile 4. Was able to manage the run and not let it manage me.I just need to continue and put the workout time in to get my times down.. What would you do differently?: Try and run better negative splits to get the run time down. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and talked to some friends. Some some refreshments at the tent.Waited around on some friends to finish.. What limited your ability to perform faster: Three days prior to the event I had some tough days at work that took a toll on me physically, I was still feeling soreness in my legs that affected me to a certain point. Event comments: Last years time was 2:53:57 this years time was 2:41:21..This was a PR for me so I'm very proud.I wanted a sub 2:40 time so I will have to continue to work hard and keep pushing forward.. Got up at 4:00a.m. and loaded the truck. Consumed some greek yogurt, banana and a cinnamon bagel. Sipped on water on the drive to West Point. Walked bike to transition and started getting set up. Chatted with some friends and fellow BTers..
Some light dynamic stretching and walked around the point to look at the swim course and count the buoys. Consumed 6 ounces of G2 Gatorade and a hammer gel 15 minutes before swim start.
