Swim
Comments: I'm almost positive the swim course was longer than 400 meters, when they changed the location of the start it made the first part of the course a lot longer than it would have been, everyone was buzzing about the course looking longer...plus, I don't think I swim THAT slowly. The lake was pretty gross to swim in and my lack of swim training really showed, as I was last out of the water in my age group by about 2-3 minutes. What would you do differently?: Not stop swimming for 8-9 months. Transition 1
Comments: Decent T1, felt a lot longer...had to run from the back of transition as my rack was near the entrance from the swim. What would you do differently?: Just practice more, but I think I did pretty well Bike
Comments: Felt really good on the bike, passed everyone in my age group and more. Got passed by guys with crazy aero equipment going 23-25mph, but I was really happy with my performance and I know I have definitely improved on the bike since last season. What would you do differently?: Just keep training hard, also need to drink on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: It felt like T2 was forever, racked my bike on one side then had to run over to the other side to get my running shoes...decided to take a few swigs of water before I started running, definitely a good idea. What would you do differently?: Practice more Run
Comments: It took about .5-.75 miles to get my legs used to running. Surprisingly, the legs felt good and it was just my lungs holding me back. The run went by pretty quickly and I'm glad I held on for first in my age group. I know I need to start running more consistently (4+ times a week again) to get the times I really want. What would you do differently?: I felt like I pushed myself pretty hard and didn't slow down, so mainly just run more consistently in training to lower my times. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a large cup of water and hung out with my momma while waiting for awards to start...also talked to some of the NATS that did the race too! What limited your ability to perform faster: Not swimming at school and inconsistent run training Event comments: The race really wasn't organized well, the venue was hard to find, the swim course was wrong on the map posted online, and the waves started late...but after all of that, everything else was great and you really can't beat a $35 triathlon! Woke up at 4:45, got dressed and hit the bathroom a few times before I loaded everything up at took off. Ate a banana and PB sandwich about an hour before the start.
I had to register the day of the race, not to mention the whole venue was very poorly marked so it took awhile to get my packet, use the restroom again, and set up transition. I got down to the lake with a few minutes to spare...until they changed the location of the swim start.
