Got up at 5.30am (4 hours before race) had wholewheat bagel with almond butter, cup of water, cup of coffee.
Event warmup:

Quick swim 10 mins before race start to get used to the water.
Swim
  • 13m 44s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Didn't have much swim practice before (ear infec) so i was very slow but still really enjoyed it. Need to practice more!
What would you do differently?:

Practice/train much more.
Transition 1
  • 04m 54s
Comments:

I took my time (first every triathlon) and could definitely speed up in this section more.
What would you do differently?:

Be quicker, don't dry off so much, try and run with bike.
Bike
  • 53m 10s
  • 22 kms
  • 24.83 km/hr
Comments:

Used my camel back for the bike section and glad i did because i find it hard to pull out my water bottle. Also only one drink station and it was right on the peak of the big hill midway, which was very hard to grab!
What would you do differently?:

Go a bit harder.
Transition 2
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

I fell over on the steep carpeted trail back to transition with my bike. Legs just too wobbly on such a steep hill! Knocked my confidence a bit but i was fine.

Again, first time doing this so took my time to make sure my laces were done etc and i had everything i needed. Grabbed my hat and glad i did as the run course was lovely but hot and sunny.

I almost went the wrong way into the run, probably added on about 30 secs to my time, oops! Wish volunteers/officials would have provided more guidance.
What would you do differently?:

More practice, get quicker.
Run
  • 35m 10s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

I really need to work on my running. I did a few brick sessions, but clearly need to do more to get used to the dead leg feeling. Again though, this race was kind of a practice for me, so i was still really happy!
What would you do differently?:

Train more to work on speed and brick sessions.
Post race
Warm down:

i had to bike back to where my car was, 7km around the lake again. Did some stretches, then drove home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Was really taking it easy to just see if i could finish. Think I could have gone a lot faster in all sections if I'd prepared myself a little more.

Event comments:

Great course, friendly, although organization could have been better (or volunteers could have been a bit more vocal about things i guess!). But do this one, it was great fun! Got awesome K Swiss top in race bag too :)

was very slow, probably in the last 10, but as this was my first triathlon i didn't mind. Water was very cold, wetsuit was mandatory.

Course: Nice trail, and it had got very sunny, steep uphill on the way out, I had to walk for some of the first 1 km as couldn't feel my feet. After the first km i just took it slow and steady (i really wasn't in it to win it!). Again, really enjoyed myself and loved taking in all the sounds and sites of the trail, even though i know i could have gone a little faster.
