Age Group = F 25-29
Age Group Rank = 10/20
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast: greek yogurt and granola, glass of OJ.
Event warmup:

Ran one easy mile at the track.
Swim
  • 11m 2s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall, I felt relatively good on this swim. There were a number of other people in the pool struggling -- at one point, the guy behind me grabbed my ankles (I can only assume because he was flailing for anything since there was plenty of room to get around me). My breathing was pretty labored, but when I concentrated on my controlled breathing, I did get into a little bit of a groove. During times of heavy lane congestion, I freaked out a little bit and had to side-stroke.
What would you do differently?:

I need to do better at the walls. This race, I stopped at the walls, ducked under the divider, and then pushed off the other wall. This was good for a short rest, but I should have been pushing off the first wall and ducking under the divider during the push-off.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

This was actually the transition from the run to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Put on the biking gloves on the road
Bike
  • 42m 56s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 17.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall good bike. I took it pretty easy for most of this segment. Consumed one Gu at miles 2-3. I lost my water bottle at about mile 6.
What would you do differently?:

A harder push -- this bike ended up being more of a recovery from the run than anything. Also, more efficient turn-arounds (these turn-arounds were somewhat slow/shakey)
Transition 2
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

it was a reverse sprint, so I was actually going from the bike to the swim. There was a group of guys huddled around my transition area when I got there (not sure why, since it was the area designated for my age group) who were a little slow to get out of my way.

What would you do differently?:

I should have been more aggressive/urgent in getting the group out of my area. I also should have put on my goggles and swimming cap while running to the pool.
Run
  • 27m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

The run is always hard for me. The first mile feels so long in this race, but the rest of the run goes by pretty fast. I walked at the water station while I finished my water.
What would you do differently?:

Kick it up a slight notch.
Post race
Event comments:

The race went smoothly and seemed well-run. My only complaint is that the guys loitering in my transition area should have never been there in the first place -- someone with the race should have told them to get out of there (they certainly didn't look like 25-29 females).
