Pre-race routine:

Got checked in and put my stuff in T1. I dropped my bike off Saturday afternoon. Walked around and talked to some of the other athletes (I just implied I'm an athlete). Started putting on my wetsuit as it got closer to race time. Not sure what the temps were the low was around 40* and the hi was 71*
Event warmup:

Once I had my wetsuit on I headed down to the ramp and got in the water. It was cold! Took a few stokes but mostly just sat and soaked in the water.
Swim
  • 48m 20s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

For my second time in my wetsuit I'm okay with this. I think I was coming off some kind of infection. I had trouble breathing with a little chest congestion all week and was feeling a little better but6 not 100%.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more Open Water in my wetsuit. I think this was a big limiting factor. I should have been able to do this swim in under 40 minutes. Pool swim does not equal open water swim.
Transition 1
  • 06m 5s
Comments:

I jogged/stumbled my way into transition. Had my wetsuit half off when i got there. I dried off a little with my towel and put my shirt on. I decided not to ride with a wet shirt and I'm glad I made that decision. I fumbled with my socks and shoes gloves glasses and helmet. Once I was ready to go I had to make sure everything that was left was in a big trash bag with my number on it so the event people could haul it all to T2 to be picked up after the race.
Bike
  • 2h 00m 23s
  • 29 miles
  • 14.45 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm not sure what the outside temp was when I headed out on the bike but wet shorts in cold air... I was very happy when they dried out. The course was a lot hillier then I had thought it was. I still was out of breath and just couldn't get enough air. My legs didn't feel like there was much power. I was really getting frustrated with my performance and was considering a DNF when i got to T2. I finally got to some down hill parts, I like down hill parts, and had some fun. I think the fastest I went on this course was about 35 or so. I past a few people and got past by a few. At one point my back was starting to cramp up so I got off and walked the bike for a couple minutes as I stretched it out and another time I had to stop and clean my sunglasses the were covered in sweat and I couldn't see where I was going. The last mile I just sat back and cruised into T2.
What would you do differently?:

Ride my bike more and ride more hills. Spin class is good but its not the same as getting on your bike.
Transition 2
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

At this point I didn't care too much but it felt so good to get out of my cycling shoes and stand on the cool grass. I really didn't want to put on my running shoes but I did and off I went.
Run
  • 1h 38m 5s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 15m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Not sure when they started but they did develop fairly quickly. I didn't have much time to break in my shoes or get used to them but I got blisters. Both my heels where the top of the shoe hits and on the inside of my right heel, this one is about the size of three quarters stacked up. I started to run some in the beginning but started to cramp in my left hammy so just settled in for a brisk walk. When I got to a down hill I would jog a little. The aid stations were great and I would take two waters at every one and a glucose at every other one. Toward the end of the race they had spray bottles and I had some of that too. It was starting to get hot. this course was well marked and had signs out for the four races they did that day.Oly Tri & DU, 10K run and 5k run. When I finally got to the 3 mile mark for the 5K event I knew I only had a little way to go so I ran, yes I would even call it a run, the rest of the way to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

MORE BRICKS!!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Find me a chair, some shade and some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Illness and altitude?

Event comments:

The organization, volunteers and participants were all great very encouraging. I can't count how many times I had people telling me to keep up the work or good job etc. Over all it was a very positive experience even with my less then stealer performance.
