Pre-race routine:

Well after a horrible sleep, I woke up at 4:15am and ate an Ego waffle and water. Sipped on water until race start. I drove to where I was meeting my family some of which were also doing the race. We piled into 1 car and headed to Fairmount park. I got my gear ready at the start point. Got my sneakers on and streched for 10 minutes. We decided to all start together so we ended up startin gin the second to last wave, which actually turned out to be not a great idea on a timing and placing standpoint.. But we lined up and the waiting began
Event warmup:

little warm up, stretched and jogged in place as we moved up each time a wave started

Comments:

Was an obstacel course run in the trails of Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. It had 2 steep hills, and a couple trail inclines. We strted around 7:30am, I was in the 2nd to last wave which was 11 min mile pace group, so I quicly made my way to front, there was one guy who shot out quickly and so my initial thought was to try and catch up to him, we were moving pretty fast maybe 8 min miles in trails, I didnt want to run so fast bc I wanted to pick it up on the last 5k of the race. The guy was moving pretty smoothly, a mile in it was just him and I, we were far enough from our wave group but not yet close to see the other wave group in front of us. We were neck and neck to the first obstacle which was army crawling under a cargo net, it was simple he made it out first and kept running, i actually grabbed some water, i was thirsty befroe the race started so I knew i was probably already behind on fluids. I quickly caught up with him and past him, I began to set an 8.5 min mile pace which was where I wanted to be but in hine sight I should of ran a 7:50 pace easily. We got to another obstacle which was crawling through tunnels, i went through it but my shirt got stuck in it and it delayed me couple seconcds. At this point I didnt really know where the guy in the blue shirt (guy who was neck and neck with me) was though I knew he had not passed me yet. I than hit another two obstacle one was climbing up a wall and the other was a mud pit chest high we had to walk across. Though it was muddy it was refreshing bc it was starting to get a bit hot. We finally hit the first long hill, it was here where the blue shirt man made his move and past me pretty quicly. I thought about keeping pace, but 1 thing Ive learned is take it easy on the hills if you want to have some left for the end. So I kept my pace which again was to sloww I should of worked a little harder on the up hills I probably could of shaved off 1 or 2 minutes off. I got up the hill, we hit some flat trais and I passes the BSG (Blue Shirt guy). He wasnt looking to good after the hill, I knew that would be the end of him and in deed it was, I never saw him again. I hit some paved road for about a mile, crusing through, talking to people, I saw a coupole drinking beer while running in the race...just Awsome, I got to the cargo net where we had to climb up and over than hit the stacks of hay that we had to climb. Ran through some more paved road and than hit the trails which i didnt relaize that it was here where I lost alot of time, the trails were narrow and it was hard to pass people, but about a 1/2 mile in the path gets so narrow that you could only run in single file, which I got stuck behind three girls which were not going very fast, I def lost 5 minutes here, the trail opened up and I pat them but there wasnt enough distance to make up any time, I heard the music and I knew there was probably less thna a 1/2 mile until the finish. I ran the paved loop hit the last water pit which was deeper than the last, and than off to the rock climbing wall which I think threw some people off especially if you never done it before, lucky for me I have. Than it ws a 45 degree wall you had to climb on your knees with a rope..It was slippery but got through that than hit the last mud pit which was you had to army crawl undernesath th ropes in mud to the finish line...hit the finish line in under 60 minutes which was my overall goal
What would you do differently?:

Work harder on the uphill portion
Start in correct wave
Dont get stuck behind people at a slower pace
Dont coast so much
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch and ate 2 hamburgers.....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

people holding me up

Event comments:

I had a good time, this was a race to get me motivated for my A and B races coming up soon....it broke up training and it was different. Fun race
