Swim
Comments: Start was a wave start....I started near the back and took my time to start...I tried to find a clear lane so I could start slow and keep my anxiety down. I got into a great rhythm and kept it through out the swim. I did have difficult with navigation I kept going wide and had to swim further to make the turns around the buoy which set me back time wise. But overall I finished strong and had the best swim of the season. I was def happy with the swim since it was actually the first time I ever used a wetsuit (triathlon party foul I know). What would you do differently?: Train prior to the race with a wetsuit and practice sighting better so I wont swim so wide. Push a little harder I was more concerned with just finishing the distance than my speed. Transition 1
Comments: Get my wet suit off quicker and not get distracted by others What would you do differently?: Move quicker Bike
Comments: had my best ride considering I really didnt do any long rides above 75 miles....due to injuries and weather. I averaged 17.4 which was my best performance ever. the ride was great except for a little wind and about 2 miles of rough road and a small river (haha) we had to ride through on each loop. My lower back and left hamstring were hurting but I think that was just due to lack of fitness at the distance...my first century ride ever....so cant really complain. I felt good most of the way at about 102 miles I was ready to get off it...the last 10 miles seemed like forever...but again my first 100 miler so not bad for me What would you do differently?: complete more long rides of 5+ hours also focus on some hill training...and of course more saddle time to help increase my speed and positioning Transition 2
Comments: I walked to transition and took my time and just made sure to dry off my feet and put my shoes on and got my fuel belt and race belt. What would you do differently?: do things faster, I really took my time.... Run
Comments: run went well considering this was my first ever marathon. I ran the first loop and decided to walk through each aid station... breaking the run down by mile. by mile 10 my quads started to really hurt but the pain was manageable. I kept a constant pace and focused on making it to each aid station. My right hamstring started to cramp a little but the chicken broth and gatorade fixed that probleM ASAP. I picked up the pace with 2 miles left and sustained it all the way through the finish line. Once I crossed the finish line it was a great feeling but it also felt ike the last 13 hours were a dream. It was pretty cool to look back and see what you actually accomplished . I was already considering signing up for another IM before I finished this one....now that I finished one IM Arizona 2012 here I come with a sub 11 hour goal..... What would you do differently?: do more bike run bricks....I didnt really do any to be honest. Post race
Warm down: Stretch and sit the heck down....tried to eat a bagel but stomach was not having, stretched and smiled and laughed.... What limited your ability to perform faster: Not doing enough bricks Not enough time in the saddle Not enough long rides Not enough training time with a wet suit Event comments: Well it was a great race and the only thing I would suggest is maybe some better post race activities. Besides that I had a great time Last updated: 2011-05-12 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3 am and rechecked all transition bags and special needs bag. checked tri bag and made sure I had everything I needed. Than ate 2 whole grain waffles and 8 oz of OJ. Than continued to drink water
Stretched and practice visualizing how my swim would go. I was really nervous about the swim because I haven't had a good swim my whole triathlon career...I spent a lot of time working on my technique and breathing. I had an olympic tri about a month before and had a horrific swim, I was so tired after the swim that it took me forever to get back into some sort a rhythm, so needless to say that was in my mind and getting me nervous.....but spent time soaking in the atmosphere and vibe of the race......but I started to get nervous when I noticed a lot of people with the Ironman Tattoo, I was feeling like I was the only rookie making there Ironman Debut....especially sine this was only my 3rd triathlon ever....Watched a motivational video and than it was go time
