Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 5:00 am. Had my usual bagel with peanut butter and rode my bike over to transition around 6:00. A few of my friends were doing the race so we hung around until the start. Last year was warm and sunny this year was chool and overcast with some wind.
Event warmup:

Got into the water and swam a little just to get used to the temp. It wasn't that cold, which was good.
Swim
  • 36m 6s
  • 1760 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started out to left left as the wind and current were pushing the earlier waves over to the right. There were some choppy conditions and I never felt good heading out. I swallowed a ton of water. One positive is that I was able to draft off of some people on my way out. i hit the turn around and saw 18 minutes on my watch, which was a bummer since I was hoping to equal or beat last years time. Rounded the buoy and headed in I must have been way off course because I don't think I was near a buoy on the way back. the swim back felt a little easier.
What would you do differently?:

Try and get some open water swims in before hand. Pray for no chop and wind. I am a litle disappointed because I have spent a lot more time in the pool this year than last.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Ran up the beach into T1.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 06m 27s
  • 20 miles
  • 18.06 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the bike. Due to a crazy schedule this was my first ride outside of the season. I feel that I was able to tackle the hills and keep up a steady pace on any flat strecthes. I stayed aero for most of the course. Only get passed by a few people.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more as always.
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

Quick and easy.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 47m 27s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

It took a little bit to get my legs under me coming off the bike. Once I got going I passed a bunch of people. I love this run since it has some flat sections and some hills. The last mile I passed about ten people which kept me going as I tried to reel each person in.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Maybe push the hills a little harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with the family and friends who were at the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim was rough and that set me back today.

Event comments:

Great race and venue as long as I can fit this in I will do it.
