Swim
Comments: WOW, I didn't realize 3/4 of a mile was so far in the water! What would you do differently?: Get some sort of anti fog for my goggles. I probably lost a minute in time due to nav issues from fogging...couldn't see jack! Need to swim more in training, to improve my time and endurance. Transition 1
Comments: so dizzy from swim, had to sit down and put bike shoes on. Bike was racked 25 feet from mount line. Made exec decision to put shoes on and mount vs. locking shoes into the pedals. Was fast, used garbage bag to keep stuff dry from rain, it worked awesome! What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Froze my ass off. Water temp was warmer than air temp. No rain on this portion, just passed. Roads were very wet. Locked the back wheel, very aggressive in every sharp turn. Got funny looks from cops :) What would you do differently?: Take the extra ten seconds and wear the arm warmers. Drink water instead of energy drink, and very little of it. Transition 2
Comments: Soooo exhausted, decided to push for speed. locked back wheel into dismount line and hopped off fast with shoes still on. Ran fast as possible with bike shoes on. Very disoriented and physically exhausted. Could barely stand. Had to sit down to get bike shoes off/ running shoes on. Changed sox (soaking wet), took time but was a good idea. I had absolutely no feeling in my feet during the bike (numb). What would you do differently?: Bring a chair to sit on vs. the wet ground. my butt was wet the rest of the race. Try to find a way to leave running shoes tied and still be able to slip my feet in. Run
Comments: Couldn't feel toes on both feet (numb from cold) until mile 2. First 1.5 miles, stomach hurt from guzzling energy drink on bike. Maintained a steady pace (slow) and finished big. What would you do differently?: Not drink so much on bike. Ride bike more to make run easier. Possibly do ride/run combos in training. Post race
Warm down: walking and stretching. Drank MM and water. What limited your ability to perform faster: The fact that i've only been training for six weeks prior to the event. The face that i've only owned a bike for the last three weeks before the race. Its a miracle i did as good as i did. Need to ride bike more/harder to strengthen legs so they dont crap out on me during the run. Do ride/run combo days during training. Event comments: I had a blast. Met lots of nice people (but 1 jerk). I hope everyone has such a positive experience on their first Triathlon. I will be coming back next year to compete against myself and others in age group vs. clydes. Post race was fun, food was good, prizes were great. THANK YOU TEAM HERBALIFE FOR GETTING ME THERE! AND TO MY WONDERFUL WIFE AND KIDS FOR CHEERING ME ON!!! Last updated: 2011-05-12 12:00 AM
