Swim
Comments: I'll be honest...given all the issues I've had recently and the doctor calling me on Friday to ask me not to race the Tri - I was a little scared of what he thought could happen...and he alluded to heart valve issues....So even though I went against doctors orders and raced I was scared of what if he was right...So to help calm those fears - I really took the swim very very slow to keep the heart rate down and not cause any issues while in the water...I wasn't sure if I would be able to get someones attention if I had a problem...and if not...the obvious would be I'd go under the water.....that's not a pleasant thought! What would you do differently?: Not have the fear of being in trouble in the water - be 100% healthy and have swam more often...since it had been 2 weeks or so since I'd really been in the pool due to illness. So, not much I could do differently given my constraints. Transition 1
Comments: I wasn't too terrible concerned about transition time since my swim sucked so bad. I actually sat down on the ground..haha.... What would you do differently?: I need to care more about transition time...I was pathetic...haha Bike
Comments: This was a pretty good ride for me considering all the rain and caution needed to navigate around that issue. I felt pretty strong...my HR was 170-172 most the bike ride so I was pushing it pretty good. I never run this high on training rides so the race mode was full bore!!! I didn't think much about the effort I just wanted to attack the hills and pass the next person. I improved 1.6mph over last year when it was dry...I'm happy with the improvement What would you do differently?: Train more - more hills - more HTFU Transition 2
Comments: I had a little trouble again clipping in the bike on the start with the right leg...same issue as last year...I think being in a rush and adrenaline fuel this problem. What would you do differently?: concentrate on transitions...I need to actually practice these more....and care more..haha Run
Comments: I'm not gunna biatch too much about the run...It sucked for me...but I hadn't trained much in 3 weeks and this was the first brick this season....So it was what it was...I'm happy with the overall performance in comparison to last time, but in my heart I should have taken off another minute per mile....or at least that's what my head thinks and past training before I got sick would indicate..dunno What would you do differently?: nothing...I'm happy with the effort and circumstance I was under...Hell, I went against doctors orders on this one..haha Post race
Warm down: Chatted with friends at the finish line - no real warm-down....at and drank some!!! the had chocolate milk which made me very happy! What limited your ability to perform faster: My performance was limited by inconsistent training over the last few months and recently having 3 weeks off due to the last time of coughing blood....I won't complain...I did the best I could given the circumstances. Event comments: This race was very special to me - not because of my performance but because of the friends that surrounded me. Having the MMMer's there was awesome - getting to race with Hilde was awesome!!! And meeting Tammy at the finish line was awesome! These people have such great work ethic and have inspired me over the last year that it was just too cool to have them physically there!!! Hilde, Tammy, Kati, Brad, Jonathon, Neil, Aneatria, William - it was awesome to share the finish line experience with you guys...This race will be very memorable for me because of the friendships and time shared!!! Got up, chatted with HIlde and Kati about the weather and then I had my usual peanut butter sandwich with a banana and a bottle of water. We were trying to plan how we would handle the rain and how sucky it might be....We also waited for my friend Jon to show up since he was our photographer. We loaded the bikes before the rain started pouring and then left when Jon showed up.
I did more warming up of my jaw than anything else. I'm amazed at all the people I'm beginning to know that race....There were six people there that I knew and talked to...that was kinda cool. I did a very little bit of stretching during the pre-race announcements. I also shot a espresso Gu with 2X caffeine before the walk to the beach!
