Swim
Comments: Daughter did fantastic! She looked so tiny lined up next to big men. But she passed one guy and was passed by no one. I was worried that I seeded her too high, but it was about right. Maybe I would seed her about 2 seconds faster next year. What would you do differently?: Have her true team show up! Transition 1
Comments: I didn't see any other relays in the transition area but they had to be there, unless they did both swim and bike. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: I felt good on the ride. The consequence of being on a relay is that I was not way at the back to start. Usually, I am picking off lots of riders, but now I was the one being picked off. 'Tho I must say there are some people on very expensive bikes with solid wheels who have little bike handling skills. I was catching these people on turns because they were slowing down and going wide. What would you do differently?: Train more. Transition 2
Comments: Not timed Run
Comments: I ran at a comfortable race pace - not too hard. I probably should have pushed harder. I didn't have a watch to guide me. What would you do differently?: Wear a watch Post race
Warm down: Found my daughter, got her some food, put away equipment. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of structured training. I just sort of did what I usually do, but no speed work. Event comments: Beautiful course, friendly people. Based on my performance this year plus my old swim results, I would have come in 1st or 2nd in my age category... I beat the age cat. winner in biking by 5 minutes but she beat me in running by 2 minutes. So it would come down to the swim, and I will never know how I would have done this year... Daughter and I came to Marblehead a day early to attend a bridal shower. We stayed at my Mom's house. At 5:55 a.m. on Sunday (race day!) we get a call from my husband saying my son doesn't feel well and that they are not coming to the race. WTF? They are on a team with my daughter. I tried to convince husband to come alone and he could bike AND run. Well, no, that would be too stressful for him. So I had to change my plans on doing the whole race, and become a relay team with my daughter. I was furious with husband.
Lots of running around and setting up and making sure the switch to a relay team would be scored right. We had my number 192 but my daughter was seeded 39 for swim.
