Run
Comments: I started out pretty average and got into a groove and stayed there, but I was a little worried that I might have gone out to hard for bike. I usually train on hills around my neighborhood, so I was prepared a little bit. What would you do differently?: I would have put in a couple of more days a week with running, maybe intervals. Transition 1
Comments: My first transition ever, but it went pretty smooth. I thought I would panic, but I tried not to put too much pressure on myself. I was relying on my Garmin 301 and didn't have it set up for transition times, so this is a guess. I made sure to loosen my shoe laces enough for when I got off the bike. No problems putting shoes and helmet on...I think only two people beat me through transition. What would you do differently?: I would probably try and put my shoes on my pedals, but I didn't want to try anything I haven't done before. Bike
Comments: I felt really good on the bike and was able to pass quite a few people on the hills! I felt myself hoding back a little bit because of not wanting to draft off anyone, so when the official was looking at me and the rider in front of me I passed him and just took off so there wouldn't be any question. After I passed I just kept that pace a felt great. One rider I was playing tag with; which I passed after about 4 miles finally passed me again about a mile from the end of the bike. I was pretty cool when she told me I was hard to catch and she was on a tri bike. I found out later she was the second overall women finisher. My right calf started to cramp up towards the end of the bike, but I did a Gel(dissolved in water) for the run and it didn't cramp again. What would you do differently?: I might try some aero bars for the down hills, since the tri bike is going to have to wait for a while. Transition 2
Comments: This transition went well too, and it seemed to go better than T1. I wished I had some quick laces for the running shoes. My dismount went well, only because I was watching some good transitioner's in front of me and I got off the same time they did. I ran with my bike to the rack and took shoes off, then my helmet...put on my hat and shoes and off I went. Drinking the gel before getting off of the bike was key. What would you do differently?: I would put quick tie laces on my running shoes. Run
Comments: The second run seemed to be twice as hard for the first mile, but after that it was pretty good. My legs felt ok, but heavy. What would you do differently?: This course was tough because of the hills, there's not much I think I could have done different. Except go faster and my body wasn't letting me. Post race
Warm down: Walked around the track and ate oranges/ drank water. After Lobo finished we had our Endurox and snacks (bananas). Talked with the BT'ers and listened to any advice about racing. What limited your ability to perform faster: I needed to run more! I think intervals would have helped on the hills in my running, but biking aero bars or a tri bike might have helped. Event comments: This was a great first race with transitions for me. I was able to see the different ways people prepare the transition area and what they used. The run was pretty hard due to the steep 2 mile hill, but it would have been nice to have one more hydration station. The bike was interesting and I almost was penalized for drafting, but I finally passed everyone and the motorcycle guy drove away. I know I was more than 4 feet from the guy infront of me. I was pretty cool having experienced triathletes come up to me after the race and complement me on a good race. The race results won't be available until tomorrow. Last updated: 2006-04-09 12:00 AM

I got up at 5am and made some coffe and ate a bowl of oatmeal. I double checked my transition bag and loaded everything into the truck and went to pick up Lobo. After picking up Lobo, I realized I forgot my running hat and we had to go back to my house to pick it up. Luckily I only live a mile from Lobo. We arrived a little before 7am and the transition area was still pretty empty, so we just kind of watch what everyone else did and then set ours up. It was very cold at this time and I was wishing I had more clothes to wear, but the start of the race was a comfotable temp and I was fine. After setting up we were able to meet a couple of BT'ers, Codytri and Pilgrim, they our both great guys. I have a road bike and I would say 80% of the bike there were tri bikes.
Lobo and I jogged around the parking lot looking for the bathrooms. This was our first transition race, so we were taking in a lot of information from everyone around us. The transition area was like being in a candy store with all the great tri bikes!
