Age Group Rank = 1/15
Pre-race routine:

Usual - bagel and diet Mt Dew for breakfast.
Spent the night at hotel/indoor water park with wife/kids. Up at 5 am to get to race site by 6 am transition set up time.
Event warmup:

1.5 mile jog
Swam about 200 meters to warm up.
Swim
  • 14m 51s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

Emergency prior to race starting: after doing about 200 meters as a warm up, pushed goggles onto head and went back to beach with 5 minutes until start. Saw others practicing the "dolphin dive" and thought I should too as I have never done it. Ran out into water and dove - as entering the water, immediately realized my goggles were still on the top of my head! LOST!! Sprinted back to transition where I had another pair and back to beach just in time for race start. These goggles were leaking water into left eye (since I didn't warm up with them, did not know). Had to deal with that until first turn where fortunately, the buoy was so close to shore that you could stand up and walk around it (while fixing my goggles).
What would you do differently?:

Still having breathing/performance issues in first 200 meters. Had to flip on my back 2 times for about 10 seconds to catch breath. After that, everything went very well.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Suit always gets stuck on heels. Had to kneel down and pry it off each foot.
What would you do differently?:

Need to cut bottoms of both legs of wetsuit.
Bike
  • 37m 54s
  • 13.6 miles
  • 21.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Due to slow swim - passed a lot of people. Had to weave in and out of everyone. Only one person passed me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

6th fastest T2 overall. Left shoe came off when jumping off bike.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice the moving dismount so that shoe does not fall off.
Run
  • 19m 10s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Passed a lot of people. No one passed me.
What would you do differently?:
