Pre-race routine:

Checked bike in night before, which simplified set up and reduced congestion near transition. Nice.
Cheerios and diet coke for breakfast.
Event warmup:

Little swimming, water temp was very nice.
Swim
  • 38m 44s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Women 40+ were 2nd wave. Thank you race director! There weren't many of us so I couldn't find much draft.
It was choppy which made sighting tough on the first leg. Going south you could like up to the high rise condos. Spent too much time trying to figure out the last buoy, seemed like everyone was heading directly for shore. Did ok, no panic attacks.
What would you do differently?:

Trust my sighting - I held a straight line pretty well, and didn't need to check so often
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 time is included in bike. Includes run up the beach.
Bike
  • 1h 28m 16s

Comments:

Got passed alot!
What would you do differently?:

Ride faster.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Time is included in the run. Was pretty quick though.
Run
  • 1h 16m 57s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Lots of people running barefoot. I kept my shoes on. They were a little heavy with the water and sand, but I wasn't sure about going barefoot.

Definitely cooler near the water which helped. Like the 2 out and backs rather than 2 loops. Plenty of water (to drink) on the course!

Was surprised that there were no volunteers/marshalls at the turn around, to keep people honest. Just signs, but it was well marked.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure about the shoes. Need more run training.
Post race
Warm down:

The emergency personnel sure were diligent. One kept an eye on me for a while. I was ok, just wanted water and to sit down.

Event comments:

Like the race. Run in the sand was a surprise was it was ok. Loved the swim wave order. Bike check in the night before made it easier. Seemed very secure.

Hope they get a bigger crowd next year. I really like this distance and there aren't many, mostly sprints.

Course: Thru a short wooded path then to the beach for a down and back then up and back. Due to high tide and rough seas the packed sand was pretty wet, plus alot of places where the water was kind of deep.
