Swim
Comments: Wet suit was a major issue, during swim found it very difficult to breath, could hardly get ½ a breath, had to abandon free-style swim stroke at ¼ mile and did breast stroke to finish. I was in a bind when getting suit due to timing, and fell pray to eager sales person with incorrect sized suit for me. After race I consulted three diffrent Tri- Sports equipment provider and found that I was in a suit that was clearly too small for me. Range on suit I bought was (XL 195-215 lbs) and current weight is 235 with 49” chest and 36” waist. What would you do differently?: I will get a better fitting suit for my next event…….. As well as do some real training in wetsuit, Hello Monterey Bay here I come…… Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Enjoyed the ride road course, the rain kind of sucked was cold and wet for first 2/3 of course, but it added to the experience overall it was a great ride on a very new bike, decided to ditch mountain bike and get road bike 18 hours prior to race, figured out shifting and gearing in 1st mile of race. New bike rides so much better than the 24 year old mountain bike I was training on. However I think I will still do a lot of training on the old clunker....it’s like peddling a school buss….. What would you do differently?: Hill training, lots of intense endurance hills, also need to get clipless bike pedals and do some real training to get use to them prior to next event. Transition 2
Comments: Most of the Time was spent getting from dismount line to rack, digging through bag for Gatorade carb packet and water bottle. Not familiar with new bike nor biking shoes with clips yet so rode with open peddels, which made transition faster from bike to run. Run
Comments: Was wornout at this stage, the swim killed me..... What would you do differently?: More miles in training program, and incorporate hills more and more Hills.... also need to figure out better way to replenish calories, carbs, and water I was fatigued starting the run and completely spent at end of race... Post race
Warm down: Walked around and slowly drank 16oz of water for 10 min, What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of physical fitness, knowledge of equipment and techniques, and hydration. Event comments: This was my first Triathlon in 23 years; this event which I was not truly ready for was to establish a Baseline from which to build upon. My goal before the race was to finish the race and not give up, to the guys in the Clydesdale category, thanks for the encouragement. You guys rock!!!! Semper fi Last updated: 2011-05-16 12:00 AM
