Swim
Comments: Started off hard. I was in the second wave. I caught and passed everyone in the first wave except for 4 people. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: I was debating weather or not to wear my wetsuit. I made the decision at the last minute to wear it. I tucked my Garmin under my sleve and it came off without getting hung up without a problem. I also ticked the timing chip under my suit but still managed to get the suit caught on it. Probably cost me a few seconds. What would you do differently?: Not get the wetsuit caught on my timing chip. I think the benefits of wearing the suit out weighed the extra time it took in transition to remove the suit. Bike
Comments: Not sure what happend. I was expecting to average over 24 but my legs just wouldn't do it. I passed 3 more people 1 mile outside the state park and could see the leader in front of me but could not catch up to him. Note to self: Don't eat chilie for lunch and dinner the day before a race. 3 bathroom stops on the way to Lake Charles, maybe that had something to do with it. 5 seconds seperated 3rd, 4th, and 5th. What would you do differently?: Not eat chilie the day before the race. It was a short race so I didn't pay much attention to nutrition, lesson learned. Transition 2
Comments: Simple, visor on, shoes on, grab race number belt and put it on as I am running out of transition. What would you do differently?: make sure there is no pebbles stuck to the bottom of my foot before I put my shoes on. Run
Comments: Legs didn't want to turn over. I was ecpecting to run in the low 6 min miles for the first mile but the Garmin showed ~6:45. Hit the turn around, got a sip of water and my legs started to feel better. Average speed on the second mile was 10 seconds faster than the 1st. What would you do differently?: Not miss the cup of water at the water station just outside of transition. Do some speedwork. I have not run much since 70.3 NOLA. Post race
Warm down: Walked around with my wife and brother, looked at the results, ate 2 piecs of cake, which tasted awesome by the way. What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably didn't taper enough. I think I did to much the week leading up to the race, my legs just didn't feel right on the bike. No run speed work what so ever. Event comments: This is a great race series. Love it. Bare bones, no awards just a little food and drink at the end of the race. But I don't go to a race for a medal or a meal, I go to race and enjoy the competition. It is a great location for a race. This was my very first race I participated in 4 years ago so I have wanted to come back and do it again to compare. 2007 = 1:05.30 2011 = 56.51 Last updated: 2011-05-17 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3am. Cooked 2 eggs and 2 pieces of toast. Loaded up the truck, poured myself a cup of coffee and drove 2.5 hrs to Lake Charles.
Walked 500 yds to the swim start.
