Run
Comments: Started out up front and settled into about a 6:35 pace for the first few miles. Once on the long climb I was comfortably running about 6:40 or so. Couple of the downhill miles were about 6:25 but the quads didn't really like that. I had to dig pretty deep starting at about mile 9.5-10. About mile 11 my pace faltered some and I began to struggle, just tried to shorten the stride a bit and keep the turnover up. The big hill at 11.8 was tough. Last couple miles were at about 6:55-7. Was through 5k in 20:28, 10k in 41:02, 10 miles in 1:06:27, 12 miles in 1:20:47. What would you do differently?: Not much. PR by a couple minutes! Post race
Warm down: Walked around and met up with my uncle and mom and waited for the rest of our crew to finish up. Got a little chilly so I grabbed a hot chocolate from a local shop. Then off for some breakfast and beer! What limited your ability to perform faster: Probably should do some more speed/tempo work in the build up. Probably lost about a minute in potential time over the last 5k, but those hills were pretty nasty! Event comments: I really like this race. Good vibe. Good course. Good. Stayed at my aunt and uncle's place which is about 30 minutes away. Up at 4 and had a normal breakfast at about 4:15 and was out the door by 5. Got downtown and parked and hung out in the car for a bit. Then hit up the porta-potties, then hung around with my sister and cousin.
We warmed up for about 10-15 minutes starting at 6:30 and then I lined up with the 3:00 marathon pacers.
