Swim
Comments: This was a very short swim. They had to shorten it b/c they couldn't get permission from the landowner farther upstream. The current was barely noticeable, and didn't cause me any navigation problems. The real problem was that the course was short and so people bunched up in a big way at the turn buoy. There was no time for spreading out. But the water was divine. The exit was also a little dicey b/c of the uneven rocks and mud. Then there was a run up stairs to the transition. Transition 1
Comments: I took my time. What would you do differently?: I think a tri suit would make life easier. Putting on a wet bike shirt never works very well. Also I would plan how I would take food along. I spent a few seconds failing to shove gu's into my shirt pocket before remembering I have pockets on my shorts. Bike
Comments: So I was just trying to treat this as a training ride and not over exert myself. That's probably good. Turns out the one thing I forgot was my inhaler. Too bad I was so slow. But it was a beautiful ride. And the big hill was not so terrible. There's just a short very steep part at the end that I saw people walking. I did it at 5 mph. So I petered along, but I had no oomph to pass anyone or pick up the pace. Oh well. What would you do differently?: Train. Not spend the last couple weeks before the race puking. Transition 2
Run
Post race
Warm down: I was very happy to not have to run! I felt OK afterwards, except for getting light-headed any time I stood up. Had a lot of bbq and oreos. Had to share the oreos with my 2 yr old. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training! Event comments: This is a nice race on a beautiful course. Would be better if the swim were longer. Last updated: 2011-05-19 12:00 AM

1) get pregnant
2) sign up for race
3) start throwing up every day and stop training completely
4) get drugs to stop throwing up
5) decide to do the aquabike anyway. so glad I didn't have to run.
managed to get up at 4:30 without puking. took medicine, had breakfast, woke up the 2 yr old, and got on the road. no problems.
Got into the river and did a few strokes out and back to practice sighting and get a feel for the current. It was very low. Then walked up to the start. The worst part was waiting at the start. I really wanted to sit down. (That's not normal for me!)
