Swim
Comments: First open water swim was a major learning experience. My speed was slower than my lap swimming speed, but that was expected. What would you do differently?: Practice OWS before race day. More drills on reaching. Looking at the video my wife shot it looks like I am alligator arming the entire swim. It was extremely helpful to see that. Transition 1
Comments: I thought it went pretty smooth for my first one. What would you do differently?: Practice more. Bike
Comments: Really bad headwind on the majority of the bike. I think I rode over a mile with my feet out of the pedals. I waited until we turned out of the wind and then put my feet in What would you do differently?: Practice more. I feel the bike really bit me b/c of the HW, so maybe look at investing in some aero bars in the future (probably next season) Transition 2
Comments: I almost lost it dismounting. I don't know if it was my fault, but there were only two people in front of me when I started to dismount (they were both to the right and left) and when I was almost off the bike, a lady was right in front of me and not moving. I had to brake hard while bailing off the back. Her back tire hit my right hamstring pretty hard, but she was okay and her bike was okay so that was good. My leg was fine so no worse for the weary. What would you do differently?: Practice more. Hit my rear brake while turning my bike to put in the rack (I held it while it slowed down a bit) Run
Comments: I thought it was a good run. I think I could have pushed it a little harder, but not too much. What would you do differently?: More speed work Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience. I had no swim background prior to starting tri training and no OWS experience prior to this race and it showed. I could use some dedication to bike fitness as well. Event comments: Great First Race! Last updated: 2011-05-21 12:00 AM

Got up at 5AM to get there at 7AM (one hour drive from the house/ race started at 8AM). Ate a bagel w/ honey, and a yogurt w/ blueberries and granola.
Drank water and very watered down Gatorade. I had half of a FRS energy drink 20 min before the start.
I was surprised at how rushed I felt showing up one hour prior. The racks were picked through, and by the time I got my area set up, I only had 25 minutes to warm up.
