Swim
Comments: Musta done a pretty good job seeding as I only passed 3 people and was passed by none. Good news is this is a 44 second/100 yard improvement from last year bad news is, it's still not very fast but overall a HUGE positive. I really just started focusing more on the swim a couple of months ago so I'm pretty happy with this. Coincidentally, today's local newspaper had an article about the Aquatic Center where this event was held. Seems the facilty was built for 30 mil 13 years ago and is now scheduled to shut down for half a year for repairs at a cost of 25mil. Gotta love the efficient use of our tax $'s :) What would you do differently?: Nothing, this went as well as I could have hoped. I had alot of problems w/the right side of my goggles but that didn't affect my time. Transition 1
Comments: I normally would do a flying mount out of transition but I just put clipless pedals on the bike and haven't practiced leaving the shoes on the pedals so I played it safe. What would you do differently?: Not much, just some practice getting on the bike faster Bike
Comments: Threw a pair of clip on aerobars on the bike couple of days ago. Not sure how much it really helped on my 30y/o steel frame roadie, with no bike fit, but made for a good place to hold my helmet in transition :) Overall, pretty solid for me. What would you do differently?: Nuttin Transition 2
Comments: Checked my watch to see where I was with my sub 50 goal. Was pretty much right where I needed to be. What would you do differently?: dunno, didn't seem like there was any wasted time. Run
Comments: Short little run through the park roads and some muck from all the rain we've had. Took a peek at my time after the first mile and realized I was pacing about 30 seconds too slow so picked up the pace for the remainder of the run. What would you do differently?: Train more Post race
Warm down: Sat on a wall cheering on the other finishers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing, this was about what I was hoping for. Event comments: Ok, so this was just a local mini sprint but I thought it gave me a pretty good indication of where I am this year compared to last. My goal was to go pretty much all out since the distance is so short and finish sub 50. At both transitions and the the finish line I was completely gassed so the effort was there. Besides, few weeks back, Shawn(Sulcus) reminded me that if I get tire to just remember I'm a Warlock sooooo, I had that going for me :) Last updated: 2011-05-23 12:00 AM

Woke up about 5:30 racked the bike on the car and made a couple of whole wheat mini bagels w/PB for the ride.
Couple of miles from the race, I see in my rear view mirror a Pathfinder bearing down on me FAST across 3 lanes of traffic completely out of control. I'm going ~70mph so this guys gotta be doing 90+. He swerves at the LAST second missing the wheel of my bike by inches, fly's past me on the right and proceeds to do the exact same thing to a car about 100 feet in front of me. After narrowly missing that car, he again swerves into the center of the road and hits the concrete divider destroying his tire and exploding his quarter panel all over the highway bringing him to a stop in the middle of the road. Somehow, he gets moving again and starts driving down the highway leaving pieces of his vehicle in his wake. Ends up getting off the same exit as me, pulls into a parking lot and takes out a frigin jack like he just got a nail in his tire. Totally unreal, my heartrate musta spiked at 200bpm! I pulled into the race called the cops and checked my bike, amazed that it(and I) was still intact.
No need, see HR comment in pre race routine :)
