Pre-race routine:

Ate cereal ~3 hours before the race and arrived at the venue at 10 with race starting at 11.
Event warmup:

Got the wetsuit on early and jumped in the water for a warm up swim out to just before the first buoy and back. Got used to the water and made sure the wetsuit felt right.

Comments:

Felt a little tired getting into the rythm in the first 250 or so. Had a very tough time sighting even with the reasonable number of buoys, and ended up just following the crowd for the most part and catching a glimpse of a buoy every now and then. Overall felt pretty good for the first time swimming the distance with that level of effort.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get a better solution for de-fogging the goggles and need to practice sighting smaller objects more.
Post race
Warm down:

Swam 2 more laps to the first buoy and back at a reasonable rate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor sighting probably let to a slightly lengthened swim route.

Event comments:

Overall the race went off without a hitch. Lots of time before the race to get warmed up and event started right on time. Drinks were waiting at the finish along with some various other snacks (watermelon, chips, etc.). Overall a well-run event in its first year.

Performance: Good
Suit: Xterra Vortex 2 Sleeveless
Course: Out and back course. Not sure of exact water temp but was very nice with the sleeveless wetsuit. 5 total buoys which were in a slightly curved setup. If swimmers swam straight towards the furthest buoy rather than along the buoys it looked to be a slightly shorter course. Short run into the water to start and out of the water to finish.
