Pre-race routine:

Breakfast of bagel w/ peanut butter, bannana, cup of coffee. Got to have my caffine fix.
Event warmup:

Took advantage of doing a local race and road to the race. Short warm run as transition closed.
  • 15m 21s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile

1st time doing a duathlon. Determined strategy based on internet research the night before and followed that. Kept a little in reserve which worked out pretty well. I tend to run reverse splits but the run was too short to make up much ground once I got my legs.
Transition 1
  • 00m 58s

Easier than a tri T1.
  • 33m 44s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 22.06 mile/hr

Have been working on by bike a lot this pre-season and it has paid off. Added almost 2 mph over last year.
What would you do differently?:

Should have taken a GU as my calfs started to cramp a bit but didn't want to slow down.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s

Yankz are cool fastest T2 for me! Took a salt tab to fend off calf cramps that were starting to develop.
  • 23m 23s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile

Took quite a while to get my legs under me, but once they did just past 1 mile I was able to make up positions.
What would you do differently?:

Need to do more brick workouts especially pushing the riding pace to simulate race conditions.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching and MIX1 vanilla was yummy! Felt good to get home and take a shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of event specific training.

Event comments:

Organizers did a great job with a bad situation and everyone seemed to have a good time.
