Swim
Comments: Oh, coming up to the bridge I was toward the shore side of the course and I remember a guy in a boat yelling to several of us telling us to swim toward the boat. I assumed he was talking about a red "ship" docked on the Charleston side. I did and as I got closer to the bridge I saw that I was going to come very close to the piling. I corrected a little more and sighted again to realize I was on a collision course with the piling. I swam harder and harder and the piling got closer and closer and "whew' I missed it by 5-10'. After I got past it I popped my head up and caught my breath and thought "wow" that was close.The barnacles would have ripped me pretty good if I were to have made contact with it. As Luke prayed later thank You God for giving Daddy a safe swim, I agreed, Thank You God for not letting me smack into that piling. What would you do differently?: For a better "time" push harder. I really didn't push hard at all just a constant effort and concentrating on my form as much as I could. Post race
Warm down: Took pictures and walked back to the boat and ate a chicken salad sandwich and a 20g protein milk thing Sandra got me. None so much - The Byrds were kind enough to let us stay on their boat in the Charleston Harbor Marina. Woke up 5:50am and ate several handfuls of Cinnamon Burst Cheerios and a green tea. Not my typical typical half bagel and FRS drink. Walked to shuttle at Patriots Point and got numbers on left arm. Jumped on Shuttle to Hobcaw Yacht Club.
Arrived at the Yacht Club and got numbers wrote on right arm. Walked around and talked to a few people about what to expect. How to start and stuff. I've never done just a swimming event. The announcer guy said that if we've never done this before be sure to stop by the shelter and get some vaseline and rub under our arms - made sure I did that and caked it on pretty good too. There is a first time for everything I guess, rubbing vaseline into my armpits. I was in the 2nd wave so I was able to watch the 1st wave walk down to the dock and jump in one by one and swim to the start. There were about 250 in each wave. 1st wave was the fast wave and the 2nd started 10mins later. So the warmup consisted of some light stretching my legs were a little stiff and a 300yd swim to the start line. You could just barely touch so there was banging into each other there but not bad. 1 pineapple roctane 15mins before race and about 4oz of water
