![]() Swim
Comments: I again managed to seed myself a bit slower than I should have. I got caught up in a pack of 4 swimmers taking the entirety of the lane at about 200m. Finally got past them, after getting pretty beat up. After that I just turned on the heat the last 50 and pressed on ;) What would you do differently?: Seed myself faster. While I was pretty close to spot on with my estimation, many of the people in front of me were a bit generous with their assumptions. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Pretty good run from the pool to transition. All in all no problems though, I got to the mount line, hopped on and started out. Feet in the shoes took a second or two longer than I had hoped as my shoe got smashed down on itself, but no big deal. What would you do differently?: Someday I'm going to take it a step farther and go for the flying mount, but I admit it's still a bit intimidating. ![]() Bike
Comments: I'm going to say I had the fastest bike split... in the results, one guy is ahead of me, but it says he did the course in 18:xx (32mph)... which I think is highly unlikely unless Landis/Armstrong/DaveZ are taking up sprint tri's. So yeah... fastest bike split. I pushed it, pretty hard. I went blind into it (no powertap... or even watch) so it was just a TT effort. I knew my legs weren't feeling all that hot anyways, so my run wasn't going to be amazing or anything, so why not burn up the bike ;) No mechanicals, and I felt absolutely awesome out there. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Well... I want to try getting another couple inches of drop on the front (going to be tough... need an ergostem) to try squeezing some more "aero goodness" out, but otherwise, I dunno... have a 300w FTP maybe ;) ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Ok, so I know we don't try new stuff on race day... but I felt like swinging my leg over, riding on one side, and hopping off / running through the dismount line. As it turned out, worked great! Sometimes, Fortune favors the bold/idiots. What would you do differently?: Nada. Things went well. ![]() Run
Comments: Started off not feeling all that hot and never felt better until crossing the finish line. Nonetheless, I managed to keep my place and even pass some people. All in all, it was an alright run after a hard bike on tired legs. What would you do differently?: Still need to run MORE. My run is certainly still my limiter. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Played around, took the bike back to the car, checked standings, etc. Nothing too special. What limited your ability to perform faster: Time. In the water, in the saddle, on foot. Things are getting better, but there's still a long way to go. Event comments: Very good race. Lots of friendly people, volunteers, etc. Well set up overall. RaceDayEvents always puts on a good show. Got up early as usual, watched that sweet Tour of California 06 (w/ White Zombie soundtrack) on Youtube... always gets me pumped up. Breakfast was a bowl of Oats and some Cocoa Crispies.
Did some Spin ups and sprints to warm up on the road outside transition. Got in the pool just to cool down a bit, lined up and ready to roll. Felt a bit tired actually, that 64miler Saturday really sapped the "feel good" out of the legs.
