Run
Comments: Went out slower than in past years, since the first hill has really hit me the last two years. After running the hills around my place, this one didn't seem bad at all. Stayed with the MOP, maintaining my pace with a previous female winner who is usually around my goal pace on the run. Finished right around my goal of a 4:30/km pace, and well under last year's time. Slower pace from the start helped me maintain a quicker pace throughout. I could have gone faster, but I'm happy with how it went. My plan was to stay steady on the uphills and really let myself go on the downhills, which worked pretty well. What would you do differently?: Go faster on the second loop. Transition 1
Comments: Took a little gatorade on the way into transition. Took off my hat, grabbed my helmet, and ran my bike out of transition. Passed 3-4 people in transition, and got into my toe clips pretty quickly. What would you do differently?: No complaints here. Bike
Comments: Got on my aerobars right away, and took the first hill. Pads still haven't come in for the bars, so I was resting my arms on metal the whole time, but it wasn't so bad. Tried to keep up a high cadence and really push the flat/downhill sections. Riding the new bike course ahead of time really helped me to plan my shifting. I did't get lapped this year, I actually passed some people, and I averaged 30km/hr. All good things for me. What would you do differently?: Not a thing. I averaged 4km/hr than my best race and stayed with the MOP. For the first time on the bike, I finally felt like I was racing. Transition 2
Comments: Remembered to loosen my toe clips after forgetting during my practice ride (fell on the grass at the side of the road at an intersection). A few other people had the same backpack as me, and were in the same general area on the racks, so I wasn't sure where my spot was. Ended up racking in the wrong spot, but I probably only lost a few seconds. Good thing I didn't need to change shoes! What would you do differently?: Mark my backpack/transition area somehow. Run
Comments: Again, went out a little slow. My calves were sore, but they felt good after the first few hundred metres. Found a few people in front of me and started to reel them in. Passed a few people along the way, and out-sprinted 2 at the end. I knew it was going to be possible to get under my 1:20 goal, so I was pretty psyched through the last half of the run. What would you do differently?: I could probably have gone faster, but I'm very happy with this run. I stayed under 5min/km and was way ahead of last year's time. Post race
Warm down: Some calf massage and stretching, followed by pizza and a diet coke. Met up with the family and hung around for the award presentations. What limited your ability to perform faster: I need to train more. Event comments: 14min PR! Very happy with this race, and excited for the rest of the season! Last updated: 2011-05-30 12:00 AM

Up at 6:30am. Wheaties for breakfast, then a quick check to make sure I didn't forget anything.
Biked to the course, about 5km. Nice and slow, making sure to get in the right gear to start the race. After setting up my transition area, getting a little air in my tires, going through body marking, and racking my bike, went for a short run with some race pace strides.
