Swim
Comments: I am a seasoned swimmer, I swim on a masters team. This was my first open water swim and what a shock! It took me almost 4 minutes just to get my body moving and I couldn't control my breathing. I started with the breast stroke and had to finish on my back. I was sure the swim would be my strongest leg, ended up my weakest. What would you do differently?: Take some open water clinics if possible. This is an early in the season race, it's hard to get in the water before this race. Transition 1
Comments: I had gone over this so many times in my head, mentally preparing by watching You Tube videos helped, I had no problems getting through the transition smoothly. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: This course was completely flat which I thought would be fun and easy, completely wrong. It was hard because there was a constant need for me to be turning my pedals. Hills may be difficult, but what goes up, must come down, and there is usually some sort of recovery. No such thing on this course. What would you do differently?: My legs were tired from the very beginning, I need to do more fast work on flat surfaces. Transition 2
Comments: Didn't have much to change here so it was easy, probably could be faster. Run
Comments: I took it nice and easy from the beginning but was able to jog and speed up, didn't have to walk at all. I put 5 min intervals on my watch which helped me keep track of how far I had gone and how far I had to go. It also helped keep it interesting as I would speed up for 5 min and recover for 5, before I knew it, I saw the finish line. What would you do differently?: Try to go faster. Post race
Event comments: Had a great time, met great people, beautiful scenery (on the beach) great first triathlon. Last updated: 2011-05-31 12:00 AM
