Swim
Comments: Met up with Rob once again, informed him of the current in our favor. This time I placed myself about second row from the start and did get kicked the moment Joe yelled out "READY, SET, GO, GO, GET OUT OF HERE!!". Didn't punch any zig-zaggers this time cause I was not that far back. Was not too proud about my speed but everything else I was happy with. Looked back, after leaving the water and found I was not as far ahead as I thought I was (bummer). But I'll be back.....oh yes.........I'LL BE BACK. :) What would you do differently?: Aside from try to find the time to join a master's club, just swim more & get faster. I'm happy with my performance. Navigation was easier than I remember it being. Needed to sight only a few times. Transition 1
Comments: Standard issue stuff. Gladly, I've developed a routine that keeps me from guessing what to do next. Also happy that I don't have a wet suit to mess with. Rob caught up to me and noticed he had his T1 in good order. Left him to his devices but that was not the end of him on the course. Took my sweet time and still havin' fun! I'm satisfied with my T!.......for now. What would you do differently?: The only thing I would like to start practicing is keeping the shoes on the bike and jump off with them at the end. Bike
Comments: Ride went better than I thought (but could always be better of course). :) Like a duffus, AGAIN! I dropped my water bottle. Hit a nasty bump as I was putting the bottle back so up and out it went. Glad no one was close enough to become a victim of my gineous. Went to pick it up and like an even bigger duffus, I managed to kick the damn thing. I must have looked like a football player chasing a bouncing ball, left and right. SIGH!!!!!!! As I'm getting back up to speed Rob catches up and says something like "C'MON MAN WAKE UP, DON'T GIVE UP MAN!!".......I deserved it. Stayed with Rob for pacing purposes from there on till the end of the bike leg (NO, I DIDN'T DRAFT!!!). Puoured the remainder of the water bottle all over just before dismounting (felt really good). :) What would you do differently?: NOT DROP THE FREAKIN WATER BOTTLE!!!! Transition 2
Comments: Removed velcro straps but didn't dare remove my feet from them just yet. Maybe in the future, with some practice. Hey, there goes that Rob guy again. He was out to T2 before I finished my lame joke I was trying to remember. "So there's this guy at the bar right, and....." "Hey you didn't listen to my joke!!!" Got everything on and actually controlled the amount of water I drank there, which was a first for me. This made my run much better. I"m fine with T2 as well.......for now. What would you do differently?: Practice either jumping off the bike with shoes on or figure out a way to leave shoes on and jump off without them. Run
Comments: If there was only one place I wanted to improve on this race, it was the run. Man, it felt sooooooo good to report I didn't get cramps. YIPPIE!! :) (for those that don't know, I get cramps just sleeping, never mind during a race). I'm extremely happy with my run..........but could've been faster of course. :) I am happy with it. I was tired and it felt like mile 8 on a 10 mile run the entire time but I'm also happy I barely stopped for the water stops. Marahton training really paid off here. Was about 10 strides behind Rob until the turn around. I slowed down a bit and he probably picked up his pace from there cause he dissappeared from sight after that. HAPPY TRAILS DUDE! What would you do differently?: Other than keep running more to increase speed and duration, nothing more. :) Post race
Warm down: Took a nice pouring of the outdoor showers right after crossing the line. Really needed that. Did some stretchig right after and at the transition as area as I was packing. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and sleep. I don't dedicate what I wish I could for triathlons nearly as much as I wish I could - something about a family and other so-called responsibilities. Event comments: They increased the water stops from the turn around only to one at about a mile out and a second at the turn around. Don't know if it was due to more volunteer, past complaints or the extreme muggyness present. Either way, it sure helped a lot. I like this race for a number of reasons: - It's short and sweet - It's close to home - It's easy and flat - It's well organized - It seems to have gotten better (ie more water stops, more/better food, etc.) I could write about a few things I would like but they're really not worth the time, cause they're either so insignificant or pretty much impossible like lack of shade...duh! Yes, I'm doing this again next year and yes, I recommend anyone to do it. I encourage first timers to do this one too since the swim is comforting by being parallel to the shore and very calm. :) Last updated: 2006-04-13 12:00 AM

Walked around and stretched here and there. Basically, just took it easy to calm down and focus.
Met up with Rob (Rmaldon240). Coincidentally, we wound up getting correllating numbers (27 & 28), and wound up getting smaller but better, more accessible transition areas by the entrance & exit (how cool). Funny, I'm a clydesdale by weight, he's a clydesdale by height (the dude is big) :)
While stretching, met a lady that was so nervous, she was almost studdering, so concerned about the swim. I explained it to her and seemed to be more calm afterwards. I hope it helped, even if just to chat.
Felt surprisingly upbeat despite the few hours of sleep coupled with my long run from last night. Just stretched a bit to loosten the tired sticks I walk on.
