Pre-race routine:

Wake up in Eugene, eat an egg and cheese breakfast muffin (cooked at home) a banana and load the car. Drive about 45 minutes up to Corvallis and do packet pickup. Eat a Powerbar about an hour before race start.
Event warmup:

Warmup? 100m in the pool before my heat took off.
Swim
  • 15m 1s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

I do not like this pool. Hot and humid. I never seem to be able to get into rythem.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

It rained on our stuff which may have slowed me down a bit. I tend to suck at T1 anyhow. . .this is a great place for me to make up free time in the future.
What would you do differently?:

Practice swim to bike transitions.
Bike
  • 33m 7s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Weather started nice, then boom! Pouring rain! Made descents a little hairy. Also, I reached back for my bottle and. . .it wasen't there! I have no idea what happened. I did the entire race with no nutrition or water. Front derailur (sp?) sucks, would only shift back into the big ring in ONE gear. Cost me a bit of speed.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a new derailur.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
What would you do differently?:

Move faster.
Run
  • 19m 42s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

WTF? In what other small sprint tri does a 19:42 only get you 30th best run time?
Post race
Warm down:

Stood around and waited for my wife to finish. Talked with other racers I knew.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain on the bike. I can't swim to save my life. I can't complain though. . .I took 13 minutes off my time from last year. This tri last year was my first ever. (1:24:XX)

Event comments:

Tons of people missed the second loop on the run, unless there was a new 5k WW that was set there. Upon looking at the results today it seems that there was some "adjustments" made to the results. Good race overall, I'm happy with my progress. Hopefully I'll be closer to a 1:05:xx by next year. I have a to make up at least 4 minutes fairly easy. But damn, a 1:11:01 is 9th in my AG? It was a strong 30-34 field in this race, would have been podium or top 5 in nearly any other AG.
