Swim
Comments: Used the tempo trainer again set to 1:15. Started in the middle of the pack. Went out too fast, I knew I was ahead of the tempo. Couldn't catch my breath. Bumped into lots of people. About 1/3 of the way into the swim, I started to calm down. Rounded the bouy well. Then I started to get into a good rhythm. There were a lot fewer people at this point. Alternated between bilateral breathing and right side breathing. Siting went well. What would you do differently?: More open water swimming, some at race pace so I know what that feels like. I have a ways to go before I can do a 0.9 mile swim comfortably without loosing a lot of steam like I did at the Oly last year. 4:41 faster than 2 years ago. Transition 1
Comments: The transition area was super soggy from all of the rain we've been having. Just walking my bike to the transition area this morning my bike shoes were soaked. I had a better time today moving through T1. 0:59 faster than last time where I wasn't wearing a wetsuit. 3/7 in AG for T1; 25/107 overall. Bike
Comments: Bike could have been faster for sure. I'm past due for some maintenance. Some of the higher gears wouldn't shift into place right away. And some of the lower gears were getting stuck going up the hill. Timing mat was at the exit of T1, so first mile included the soggy run on the grass out to the road. Felt good for the first couple miles until the hill. Probably could have pushed it a little harder on the hill. And I lost a little energy at the end. 8:40 faster than last time. What would you do differently?: More hill training before Danskin. Get my bike fixed up before the next race. May want to try experimenting with my HR monitor on time trials and training and then at the next race to keep my effort more even throughout. Transition 2
Comments: Had a little trouble getting my running shoes on. Everything was so wet. Running hat was soaked so just went without, which turned out to be fine. 3 seconds faster than last time where I biked in running shoes. 2/7 in AG for T2; 32/107 overall. What would you do differently?: Hope for dryer weather next time. Run
Comments: Did well not going out too fast. Kept it conservative in the beginning since I was worried about my hip. Each mile was faster. But based on my breathing, I was really pushing it on the run. I'm noticing I'm losing speed each week as my hip doesn't improve. I did get a blister from my shoes and no socks. 3:39 faster than last time. What would you do differently?: Next time I do such a wet race, either wear socks or put a bandage where I know I have hot spots. I did use Body Glide before hand, but that didn't seem to help my foot. Post race
Warm down: Walked at least 1/2 mile. Ate and drank and chatted. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hip, poor sleep, not enough desire to go faster today. Event comments: I love that I got to do this race again. It was wonderful to see so many people I knew. I placed 3rd in my age group since the faster person in my AG was fasted woman overall. Tough AG I'm in. 9/40 women. 18:02 minutes faster than two years ago. Faster across the board. So even though this wasn't a great race for me, it's nice to see the progress I've made in 2 years. Went to bed late, didn't sleep well, got up early. Stomach wasn't feeling great. Don't know if it was nerves or the stomach bug that's been going around my office.
About 200 yd swim.
