Run
Comments: Wow! Perfect weather for the race–sunny, breezy and low 50s. I had a lot of fun and felt strong through most of the race, including the hills. This was the first time not carrying water during a half marathon race and it went pretty well. The water stops didn't slow me down much. I ate a package of Gu Chomps which seemed about right. I had carefully planned to run a 9:40 pace through the first 3 miles, and then pick up the pace to a 9:35 for the rest of the race. But after the 2nd mile, I just went by feel. Mile 1 9:23 <-- oops, too fast Mile 2 9:42 <-- able to slow down my pace Mile 3 9:21 <-- included the 1st hill, so I wasn't paying attention to my pace Mile 4 9:26 <-- made it up the 2nd hill and was feeling good, so I threw my pace plan out the window Mile 5 9:20 <-- downhill and feeling good Mile 6 9:30 <-- downhill and feeling good Mile 7 9:21 <-- downhill and feeling good Mile 8 9:37 <-- the wind down by the water was making the running tougher Mile 9 9:35 <-- more wind Mile 10 9:28 <-- started to play my favorite game, "Who can I pass from my age group?" Mile 11 9:20 <-- only a 5K left and feeling strong Mile 12 9:28 <-- I know the hill is coming, but I think I have enough left in the tank for it. Mile 13 9:09 <-- Passed lots of people up the 1/2 mile hill, and ended up with this being my fastest mile. 0.1 Miles 7:36 <-- Lots left for my finishing kick! Last updated: 2011-06-05 12:00 AM
