Comments:

Felt really panicky in the beginning (again) and couldn't catch my breath. I was wearing my tinted goggles since it was so sunny. I haven't worn them in awhile and they leaked. Need to get new goggles for open water. About 1/4 into the swim I looked back and I swear I only saw a couple caps from my age group. Then around the half way point, men from the next group M30-39 started flying by me. This was the swim with the most bumping into body parts I've ever had. I did a lot of stopping to catch my bearings when getting hit from both sides. By the 3/4 point I started to feel tired. I couldn't really see the finish due to the bright sun so I followed the splashing. I never felt good in the water, but it was an ok swim.

Comments:

First race on Betty and it was such a fun ride, and my fastest at a race! I loved the course and biking by all the ponds and cranberry bogs. Slight hills throughout but nothing that made it so I had to get into my lower gears. I got to pass some women from my age group, plus a lot of people from early groups later in the course. But then those M30-39 men on their tri bikes went zooming by too. Traffic was a bit of an issue on parts of the course where we had to stop for 45 sec at an intersection and another time had to ride slowly on the gravel due to a lot of backed up traffic we were passing. I did drop one of my water bottles almost immediately. So I had only half of my nutrition. I picked up a bottle of Heed at the 15 mile bottle exchange but didn't drink it. I HATE Heed. Plus this was the melon flavor. Doubly bad. I still have to get over my issues of not wanting to pass men who "look" fast. I held back a number of times when I just needed to push ahead.

Comments:

By the time the run started, it was in the 80s and sunny. Each mile got slower and slower for me. Around 5 miles there was a small hill where I started walking a bit. At the top I went back to running. They had ice on the course and I grabbed a cup and ran with it for the second half which was great. Too hot, and too much sun. I need to practice more running during this time of day. This run kind of sucked.
