Age Group Rank = 81/100
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30, protien shake and peanut butter toast
Drove to friends house, then carpooled to event. Got there about 5:30, pleanty of parking in the dirt lot. About half mile to 1 mile walk with bike and gear to racks.
Event warmup:

not much other than the walk from parking
Swim
  • 20m 24s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a good swim for me. I couldnt swim to save my life 6 months ago so this is progress, even though I know I have lots of room to improve.
What would you do differently?:

Keep training to impove speed
Transition 1
  • 03m 49s
Bike
  • 59m 17s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 18.87 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I took off too hard and drank a little too much (which hurt my run). My bike had gone through some big changes before this and I really hadn't trained on it properly before the race. I usually do a little better on the bike realative to the field, so this was a little dissapointing.
What would you do differently?:

More solid training on the bike. Work on a smooth cadence throughout the ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

One of my best T2 times to date
Drank too much water before run
What would you do differently?:

Do just this again, free time
Run
  • 1h 00m 45s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Very disapointed with the run. Had side cramps the first mile and again from 3 to the finish. I had a combination of factors that I think led to the poor run. I got stung on the foot by a stingray 3 days prior and had some residual swelling. My bike had gone thru some major changes just prior and I had not ridden it a lot which dramatically impacted my bike fitness. I had some rumbeling in my stomach. I had side cramps from too much liquid and poor bike fitness. One of my worst runs ever!
What would you do differently?:

Train better on the bike so as not to hurt the run, don't get stung by a stingray, drink better on the bike and in T2
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around the chute, waited for a friend to finish

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor bike fitness, not prepared for run

Event comments:

Good race even though it was a bad day for me.

Course: The water tasted horrible. I think there is a lot more gas in the harbor than over at the bay where I usually swim.

Course: Flat point to point. First 1/4 mile in sand, not fun, second 1/4 was onlong the rocks of the harbor. It had a steep slope in the middle for drainage which threw me off a lot. I had a foot injury recently from running on an uneven surface and this was freaking me out. luckilly it didn't last long. I didnt like the area through the rental car parking, there was a lot of gravel and loose sand.
