Swim
Comments: Tried to stay too close to the buoys on the way out and got trapped trying to get past a lot of people during the first 3 - 4 minutes. Breathing was poor on the way back in - too much rotation and large breaths due to overexertion. What would you do differently?: Go wider at the start. Stay focused on good technique instead of trying to power through everyone else. Transition 1
Comments: Had problems getting my suit off - especially off my feet. I could probably shave at least 30 seconds off my time if I practiced kicking and stomping out of my suit. I chose not to weart sock for the first time and that saved me some time. What would you do differently?: Practice getting out of my suit FAST. Bike
Comments: Really please with this. Took 3 minutes off last year's time. I hung with a lot of the big kids on nicer bikes and I was only passed by a small number of people. What would you do differently?: Back off a little when I get into HR zone 5 to save more for the run Transition 2
Comments: Took a wrong turn coming into transition, but probably lost less than ten seconds because of it. I wear orthotics and I have typically worn socks to get into my running shoes easier, but I left my yankz a little looser than I have in the past so I was able to grab the shoe heel and the orthotic when I pulled the shoes onto my feet. Worked great! What would you do differently?: Remember where I'm set up. :) Run
Comments: Got passed by a few people in the first 1/2 mile, but I managed to run a few folks down in the last mile. Not my usual run performance, but still a little faster than last year. Not bad considering I have barely focused on short distance running for the past couple of months. What would you do differently?: Hold off a little more on the bike and run down more people in mile 1. Post race
Warm down: Had a hot dog and chatted with friends. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor planning for the swim and pushing a little too hard on the bike. Event comments: took off 3 minutes and moved up into single digits in my age group. It was a lot of fun. I will probably do this race evrey year as my season opener. It's close and fast. woke up at 5:00. Had a bowl of oatmeal, some fresh berries, and picked up a big cup of coffee. I was surprised to find the first parking lot filled at 6:30, but I still found a great transition spot along the perimeter near the bike out spot.
ran a nice easy 3/4 mile and swim for a couple of minutes.
