Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30, made some coffee, and got out the door by 5:15. Arrived at Pax NAS at 6:15, but didn't find the outdoor pool until 6:45!!
Registered, used the restroom, and set up my transition area.
Event warmup:

Short jog with Garret and Matt.
Swim
  • 14m 35s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started 4th in my lane and passed everyone before I hit 200 meters - I passed the first guy just after 50 meters; I passed the next two just before 200 meters. Almost clear sailing after that except someone attempting a pass almost swam straight into me!! That threw me off for a couple seconds.
I had my Garmin in my swim cap, but it (apparently) wasn't on the proper display for the race. I kinda wished I had a normal stop watch to keep an eye on my pace.
What would you do differently?:

Start first. Wear the Garmin on my wrist.
Transition 1
  • 00m 30s
Comments:

Noticed that the Garmin wasn't on the proper display, but I hit the 'lap' button anyway. With no wetsuit to strip off, I got through T1 very quickly - I ride sock-less and start with my shoes already on the pedals.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - pretty smooth.
Bike
  • 35m 30s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 22.14 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike computer isn't presently working properly (it displays cadence, but not speed) and I didn't attempt to futz with the Garmin, so I just concentrated on keeping my cadence up (above 90). I don't think I was passed (permanently) during this leg - one guy I passed, passed me back, but I got him on a hill near the end.
I'm VERY please with my guestimated bike time/speed!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Tying my shoes took longer than I was hoping - I even had to re-tie my right shoe. Other than that, I think T2 went pretty well.
Run
  • 25m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 06s  min/mile
Comments:

I played around with my Garmin during the start of the run and got it set up correctly for the run leg. Took it easy on the downhill segment and hit my first mile at just under 8:00. Second mile came in at 8:10, and I tried to pick it up for the last and hit just under 8:00 again. The last 0.1 was torture and my pace was about 9:40!
I'm actually really pleased with my ~8:00 pace, as at my last Olympic I came in over 9:00.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked the loop I jogged at the warm up and then changed in time to cheer on Matt and Garret.

Event comments:

Very small race, but pretty fun!! Would like to try to race it again.
