Swim
Comments: nothing bad, nothing good. had to pass the lady in front of me at the start of the second lap, but this slowed me down, and then i ended up being passed by two others. one guy was a bit too impatient and couldnt even wait until the wall (even though the race instructions explicitly state that if someone taps your feet, let them pass at the wall. it says nothing about "stop in the middle of the pool and let them go by") so anyway, this guys stops about 6 or 7 meters from the wall, goes under the lane divider, and starts up the other side. I know because I saw him doing it as I turned at the wall... I can't believe he got away with it. What would you do differently?: there not a lot to do differently. a pool swim is going to be chaotic. It seemed like they were starting people about 6 seconds apart instead of 10-15... but you are going to have people on top of each other no matter what. Transition 1
Comments: My T1s continue to get faster. I once again was at the "run start" end of the transition area, meaning that I had to run the whole way (in and out) with my bike and no shoes on. Cold air, cold water, bare feet and asphalt is not a friendly combo. What would you do differently?: nothing. Bike
Comments: Good ride. I felt like I had draft marshalls on my ass the whole time. It was tough too, because people were not riding to the right... at one point I was yelling at a guy to move over so I could pass him on the left, there literally was not enough room to get by and I didn't want to take a chance. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I think that my pace was right on... if I pushed myself much harder, the little bit of time I saved on the bike would've toasted me for the run, actually costing me time in the end. Transition 2
Comments: Again, had to run the whole length with my bike, each step KILLING my feet. It was more like a tippy toe hoppity hop please make it stop kind of run. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I don't think I could've gone through faster without making my feet fall off. Run
Comments: "I don't remember much about the run, except that my legs felt good." That's what I told everyone at IHOP, and it's pretty accurate. I do remember thinking that the course was shorter than what I had anticipated...(I'd run through it twice before, but got to the one mile point sooner than I though it would be, and same for the turnaround). At the very beginning I grabbed a cup from the aid station that I thought was water but turned out to the Hammer Heed. Mouth puked for sure once that hit my lips. It was a great feeling to have seen very few people coming back while I was still on the way out. I passed four people on the run and lost one. I'm happy with the pace. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on some more bricks. (Although this race was much better than 3 weeks ago coming off the bike, I felt very strong through the first mile). My run has come a long way, mostly because I've started to put effort into it. Post race
Warm down: Splitting time between my awesome fan club that came out to see the race, and then my BT homey's that were jockstrapping and racing. Ate some muffins and orange slices. Then Chippy and I talked about how we are total badasses. and of course IHOP! What limited your ability to perform faster: Sleep. I had a crappy night of sleep on Friday night (because like an idiot I watched "the exorcism of emily rose") and then again on Saturday because I had pre-race jitters. I'm still trying to figure out pre-race nutrition. Event comments: Great race. Super organized... the had posted results and sent an email out to competitors by 8pm last night, that is awesome. I placed 3rd in my AG, but didn't realize it until Jess, Chris, Liz and I were sitting at IHOP talking about it, so we missed the awards. (I had counted 3 AG'ers ahead of me on the preliminary results that were posted. What failed to register in my post-race brain, however, was the fact that one of those three was in the Overall Top 3.... therefore bumping me up one spot in my AG). I emailed the RD last night. Hopefully I can still get my hardware. Last updated: 2006-04-15 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30. Finally a race that I didn't have to drive super far. Peanut butter toast, banana, Gatorade, and a little bit of coffee to get the brain functioning.
Short run, walked around in circles looking for Tri Take Me Away, Chippy, Coredump, etc who were "Standing in front of the building" (which by the way is huge). Lots of strething, oh and most of a Clif Bar.
