Move FASTER through transition and NOT get flustered when things do not go the way I planned!

I was racing against myself for the first half of the bike in an attempt to make up for lost time in the swim. Passed half a dozen other folks in the first 3.5 miles and several more along the route.

Sucked! I was HOT for the first half of the run w/the morning sun beating down on the beginning of the trail. Legs felt SPENT. Walked 2 or 3 times to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

run faster!

Panicky in the swim, never run trails,

Overall, a very good effort considering this is the first time the race director had put on a race. I'd do it again next year!

HR was through the roof from the get go. This is the first time I have swam 800 yards continuous and I did use several swim methods (free, breast,back and side) to get through.
