Swim
Comments: First time ever I swam the entire swim. Not back stroking. It was awesome to finally do it. I think maybe my longer intense warm up helped - got the breathing panic cold thing out of the way. I had one moment when going across the width of the course that I went fairly far out of the way (out to sea really) Swam a bit extra but other than stopping sighting thinking I just had to go straight across and swimming out to sea, I sighted OK and had a good swim. What would you do differently?: Not stop sighting! Transition 1
Comments: As always, I had to spend time in T1 putting on my winter wear. It was cold out and so I have to put on a thermal and winter cap. Had trouble getting my wetsuit off over my timing chip. Anyhow, it was a bit slow but... What would you do differently?: not sure. Bike
Comments: Not sure the rest of the race is much to talk about. Being sick the week or so previously and taking 7 days off before this race wasn't the best prep. Basically after 1/4 mile my thighs were on fire like I have never ridden a bike ever. It did get better the second half - maybe also because I could feel my legs and feet finally. Anyhow, I slogged it out. I drank one bottle of a 1 hours perpetum mix. Seemed like enough liquids since it wasn't hot. Transition 2
Comments: My transition seemed super fast. There are other people with faster times, not sure how they do it. What would you do differently?: I would have drank some electrolyte mix that was sitting there at my area that I had mixed. I figured that they would have some on the run but... Run
Comments: If the bicycle was bad the run was worse. Not only did my right leg protest, the entire run 3/4 of the run was on the beach. That would be hell if I was totally on. I dodged waves, got soggy feet and then ran in some deep sand. Not fun especially with my right leg totally cramped up and was in pain after the run too. What would you do differently?: Train the week before! Oh yeah, and those brick workouts need to happen! Probably should have stopped and stretched during the run too. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Not training before because of sickness. Event comments: Didn't like the run on the beach. There was only water on course which is fine but I would be nice to know ahead of time. Great race for the spectators, however. Parking was a bit of a nightmare. They also kicked us out of transition an hour before the first wave. But all in all it was run well and fun. Last updated: 2011-06-07 12:00 AM

Go lean cereal and 5 hour energy in lieu of coffee
I spent more time in the water before hand - 15 min. and did some fast paced intervals. I was determined not to have a panic attack from the cold water so I tried to make friends with it rather than avoid it pre-race
