Event warmup:

Swam for about 5 min. before to try to get used to the cold water 63 degrees - which for some may not be cold but it literally takes my breath away. I timed the warm up well so that when I got out my wave started within a few minutes.
Swim
  • 27m 36s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

The first lap I couldn't breath in the water so I did side and back stroke. I also just tried to stay calm so I did a lot of letting people pass and I didn't worry about racing.
What would you do differently?:

Just more practice in open ocean - I only had practiced in cold water once before.
Transition 1
  • 05m 24s
Comments:

I spent time in T1 putting on my many layers for the bike ride. As others sped off in their tri-suits, I looked like I was headed to the ski slopes. But my teeth only chattered for the first 4 miles. It seems excessive for others but I would have become hypothermic had I not worn warm clothing and a cap on the ride. As it was I still didn't feel my feet until well on the run.
Bike
  • 1h 23m 46s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.80 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike actually felt good. Again I didn't race it per se but I had a solid steady ride. I thought my time would have been better but.. My legs felt strong and if I hadn't been worried about my legs for the run I could have pushed a bit more. Also, I was a parachute out there.
Transition 2
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

When I got to the rack my hamstrings were tighter than I have ever felt them. I literally could not run out of transition. I haven't felt that before. Neglecting bricks I suppose.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more bricks
Run
  • 52m 37s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

My calf felt tight but not painful - though it felt like it might get that way. The first 3 miles I would run, walk and stretch. I forced myself to not try and push it and make it a real injury. By mile 4 I could run fairly well and then raced the last mile. I had visions of my calf tearing as I pushed the last few yards but it was OK. For a slow and contained as I felt like I kept myself I did OK. I really may have been the last person in my wave out of the water so...
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

My flipping calf but I bought and wore compression sleeves on my legs and wish I had known about them before. They helped a lot.

Event comments:

Really well organized and fun.
