Pre-race routine:

Woke up had a banana and went to the race.
Event warmup:

Shiver and think that I shouldn't do this race.
Swim
  • 38m 30s
  • 1637 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

Too cold. Swam into the wind and was frozen before the first turn. Navigation was worse than bad.
What would you do differently?:

Not do the race. I love this race but it was too cold.
Transition 1
  • 05m 25s
Comments:

Was cold cold cold. Tried to dry myself off as much as possible and put on extra layers.
What would you do differently?:

warmer socks.
Bike
  • 1h 29m 45s
  • 22.9 miles
  • 15.31 mile/hr
Comments:

I was so cold it was painful. I lost the feeling in my feet around mile 10. I braked on the down hills and prayed for the long climbs so I could try to warm up. It didn't work.
What would you do differently?:

Warmer socks and maybe cold weather boot covers. Really I had a lot of energy and could have gone much much faster. I just couldn't handle the cold.
Transition 2
  • 02m 56s
Comments:

I was going to quit. I couldn't feel my feet and couldn't move. Still I changed into different socks and started the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure.
Run
  • 1h 05m 27s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Started to feel my feet again around my 2. Started to feel good like I could finish this race and maybe just maybe be ok. Was averaging 8:30 miles and passing people. Finally started to feel good, then mile 4 came and a got a huge knot in my left calf. I walked the last two miles unable to run.
What would you do differently?:

I'm done doing cold weather races. My muscles don't like them
Post race
Warm down:

Got my silver free blanket and packed my stuff in the car. It was time to turn on the heater and drive home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just the weather. I trained twice as hard this year and was ready for this race.

Event comments:

I absolutely love this race. It is the best. If it was in warm weather I would do it again next year.
