Pre-race routine:

Nothing special - up early, at transition when it opens, got a good spot on rack for bike; breakfast of oatmeal, soy protein powder and yogurt
Event warmup:

stretch and swim; felt relaxed and loose
Swim
  • 10m 37s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swam with #betyoursilver; most crowded wave in which I've ever swam; difficult to avoid the congestion and swim around at times; stayed relaxed
What would you do differently?:

consider placing myself a the front of the pack in these Tri 4 Fun races
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Pretty good transition; felt like my area was disorganized but I didn't really experience any problems so it's probably OK. I've been experimenting with longer socks because in some races the timing chip chafes my ankle, but the longer socks are not quick to put on. Not sure which way I'll go for my real races
What would you do differently?:

Need to figure out the sock thing
Bike
  • 28m 57s
  • 9.26 miles
  • 19.19 mile/hr
Comments:

Passed a lot of people and had to slow for some bunched up riders a few times; forgot to re-program the Garmin after downloading new software so it wasn't picking up transition times in the multisport mode. Ended up in Run mode right out of T1. Getting use to the new gearing on my bike but feel I did well overall. Wasn't way off on gears at any point even if not in the ideal gear at all times.
What would you do differently?:

Double check the Garmin settings; continue to log miles on the bike with new gearing
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Again, the transition area felt disorganized to me and my run things weren't at my fingertips; I like races where there are two transition areas, but overall this didn't much impact my time
What would you do differently?:

consider getting some quick tie laces for running shoes
Run
  • 24m 42s
  • 3.22 miles
  • 07m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Enjoyed this run but wish I had pushed myself a little more. Felt strong on the uphills.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder
Post race
Warm down:

oranges, sports drink, stretch, sit in the sun

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Race was at the end of two heavy volume training weeks but for a practice race, I feel pretty good about this. I got some information I'll use in preparing for the Vineman, especially in transitions

Event comments:

Very well organized; lots of volunteers who seemed to be having fun; good amount of room in transition area and a great event for newcomers to the sport or people who need a practice race.
