Pre-race routine:

Wake up at 2am. Coffee and breakfast. Banana, energy bar and OJ. Head to race at 3am and get there at 3:30. Very concerned about parking but there was no problem because it was really early. Walk to the transition area about 4am. Get everything set up. No problems. Didn't forget anything. Very uneventful which is good.
Event warmup:

Warmup consisted of light walk/run around transition area to familiarize my self with the layout. Lots of time. Go to corral area and get wetsuit on at 5:45.

Swim was okay especially the last half. Sighting could have been better and I drank a lot of water the first part which caused problems later.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice open water swims

Comments:

I was exhausted coming out of the swim and it took some time to gather myself. Very long run to transition area from the River. Everything went about as well as expected. Wetsuit came off with some difficulty. I put my shoes on before and that slowed me down coming out of transition but I made up the time after I mounted the bike.

Good bike. It seemed slow but based on the results, it was pretty good. I sustained 20mph which is good for me with all the traffic. Very happy with this. The dismount point caught me by surprise. i thought I had more time and didn't take my feet out of the shoes before I dismount.
What would you do differently?:

take feet out of shoes.

I should have been out of there in about a minute but i couldn't get myself moving through transition. I was having some stomach problems and that was slowing me down. Seemed to lessen quite a bit in the first mile.

Run went about as well as could be expected. I was having some stomach problems and I was really tired. I was thankful for the light rain and clouds. It made the run a lot easier.

Trained more.

Event comments:

Great race. The only downside to it is having to deal with the DC traffic and parking. But even that was not a bad as thought it was going to be. The race folks did a good job of informing everyone about the parking and traffic situation.

Course: I liked the course. It was crowded just after we came out of transition and then it seem to thin out some the last part of the lap. As we came around the for the second lap, we caught the Sprint racers coming out for their lap and it was extremely crowded. Lots of blocking and drafting especially in the first half.
