Swim
Comments: Overall one of my best triathlon swims. It wasn't very fast, but it was comfortable and steady. The first hundred yards was a tiny bit crowded, but not too bad. I found some space and just focused on getting into a rhythm. It sure felt like more that 1000m, but I felt strong throughout. Navigation was easy, but once we got spread out there weren't too many opportunities to draft. I finished feeling very fresh and ready to hit the bike. What would you do differently?: Push the pace a little more. I was cautious not to push too hard knowing that I didn't have much OWS under my belt. Transition 1
Comments: I decided to put my shoes on in transition due to the lack of practice and I struggled getting into my shoes while riding last time. What would you do differently?: Practice flying mounts. Bike
Comments: I pushed the pace on the bike fairly hard. I knew I was behind a lot of folks after the swim, so I got down and just hammered. Overall a pretty steady effort. I took advantage of some legal drafting as I moved through the crowd, and about half way through things opened up and the crowed thinned out significantly. I didn't pay attention to my power, but just focused on staying small and letting my intuition guide my pace. I spent most of the ride with a couple other TOTR guys, so it helped gauge when my pace started to slip. What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 2
Comments: I was careful with the dismount and ran into transition. Unfortunately there's a curb without a ramp as you enter so I had to lift the bike up, and struggled to get the bike under control after lifting it. I ended up just carrying my bike through transition to the rack. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Just a weird occurrence. Run
Comments: My pace wasn't horrible, but I was feeling the hard bike. I was struggling to keep the effort level as high as I wanted. I only got passed once about half way through, and the guy happened to be in my age group. Unfortunately he was cruising along around 5:30-5:45 pace and there was no way I could stick with him. Overall the 5 miles went by pretty quickly, but it wasn't fun. What would you do differently?: Run faster? I guess nothing really. Post race
Warm down: I had planned on doing a cool down run, but my stomach was upset after I finished and I decided to just get some calories in and take it easy. What limited your ability to perform faster: This was a pretty decent race for my current fitness. There were a few details that could have gone better, but overall it was a pretty good effort and execution. Event comments: I like this race. Good venue and a very fast course. TOTR does a very good job and it's very well supported. Last updated: 2011-06-12 12:00 AM

Out of bed at 4am. Downed a 5hr energy and a Mojo bar and got dressed. The car was already loaded, so we were on the road by 4:30. Drive took about 50 minutes, which put us there just as transition opened. I racked my bike and got set up in transition in our designated spots and then hit the porta-pottie before they got busy. Over the three hours between wakup and race, I sucked down a bottle of EFS/gatorade, at a Honey Stinger Waffle and a mix of Gatorade/RaceDay. I also had a Gu 10min before the start of the race. Overall too much liquid.
I just a short 1 mile run at 6:15 with some pickups and then did about 300yds in the water 15-20 min before the race.
