Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:50am. Morning bowel movement at 5am. Ate a Clif bar and munched on half of a powerbar. Super tired. Got in Dan's van around 5:15 and got to race site by 6am.

Event warmup:

Jogged around a little bit, but then learned that the start was delayed. Just sat around and listened to ipod.
Swim
  • 14m 8s
  • 686 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swimming sucks.
What would you do differently?:

I would learn how to swim because I suck at swimming.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I was so winded from the swim that I couldn't really think straight at T1. I guess T1 was included in the bike time.
What would you do differently?:

I would actually practice transitions, especially since this was my first tri in 4 years.
Bike
  • 33m 46s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.32 mile/hr
Comments:

I hurt myself badly on this segment. I guess I wanted to do well on this segment, since I now have a new bike that is sexy as hell.
What would you do differently?:

I would definitely take it down a notch coming out of T1. I absolutely destroyed the first 2 miles. And then I discovered that I had 10 more miles and that I wasn't going to last.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This was fine. I dismounted and ran through the transition to my rack. I got my gear off and my shoes on in a jiffy.
What would you do differently?:

Practice bricks! I was feeling shitty as hell after killing the bike portion.
Run
  • 20m 21s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

I was HOT during this. Holy cow. Could not get into a rhythm because of the shitty terrain and the water. When my shoes got wet my feet kept sliding around in the shoes which made accelerating difficult. I felt like I ran sloppy. Not surprising given how sloppy the course was.
What would you do differently?:

I would slow it down on the bike to save myself some steam for the run. I was definitely cramping up all over the place--or at least on the verge of it.
Post race
Warm down:

Jumped right into the lake with all of my stuff on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Having barely trained at all for swimming or biking. I thought I was going to be able to have a solid run, but my poor bike fitness ruined my legs for it.

Event comments:

Despite the pain, I loved this race. It was a great way to get back into triathlons. The small size was a plus, I guess. Also, the post-race buffet was phenomenal.

Wow slow.
Course: Shitty conditions due to torrential downpours. Too much off-road running and one killer hill. Several rolling hills on grass that was actually mud.
