Swim
Comments: Felt good in the swim. I got the sense I may not have been as straight as I wanted, but not sure. My HR seems high, but I think this is how I swim. Only have ever looked at my swimming HR 2 times now... What would you do differently?: Site better? Stay smoother, focus on technique. Transition 1
Comments: Bad T1. Didnt clip in my right shoe. As I am running out of transition I see that my foot isnt clipped... Had to stop and clip it... Need to get better in transition. What would you do differently?: May want to work on the shoes already clipped into the bike. Need to practice transition. Race experience is not enough. For short races transition is huge. I should be at least 1 minute faster. Bike
Comments: Really had a great bike for me, except I added .25 miles to my ride by going the wrong direction.... .25 is not much, but I had to turn around, get my head back in the game, and then wait at the wrong side of an intersection for the race people to stop traffic to let me back into the race. Was not all that awesome... My guess is I lost 3 minutes at least. My moving pace was 19.3!!! That is fast for me! I am finally starting to enjoy the bike because I am finally improving. Every time I get out I feel like I am faster than the time before. No matter the course. What would you do differently?: Look at the course beforehand! I had a good strategy to this race. Took it easy up hills and biked hard down and on flats. I think being familiar with the course is the most important. But having a strategy is key too. I should know what I want to do more in advance. Transition 2
Comments: Time was pretty solid here I think, but I forgot my garmin. Another big mistake. How will I pace my run??? What would you do differently?: Remember my garmin. Dont be distracted Run
Comments: Without my garmin I was kinda thrown for a bit of a loop. I struggle to pace especially in the beginning and this time I had nothing to help me. There was another NEMS guy running about my pace and so I asked him. He couldnt tell me until mile 1. Ran it at 6.45 I think. Then I picked it up a bit, he was just a little behind me at mile 2 he yelled, but I didnt hear him. All in all I am very happy with my run. I kicked hard at the end and think I pretty much left it all out there. I could have gone harder, but this was a tough race for me mentally. To put in that run after f-ing up a bunch was good. Also I know I have a sub 20 sprint tri run in me, and I hope it is this year! What would you do differently?: Bring my garmin! Try and get just a bit more water down. In my last 2 races I almost choked on water. I think I am running too fast as I sip. I want to maintain my speed but this is a technique I need to work on I think. Post race
Warm down: Didnt really warm down come to think of it... I stretched... What limited your ability to perform faster: Being an idiot. Bad transition 1, took a wrong turn, forgot my garmin... I have to admit I have been sick since Friday too. And I was sore coming in to the race. Played soccer Friday night. I think ultimately I did not take this race seriously until I started to race. Event comments: I liked the race. Every course is what you make of it. Next time I will bike it properly! Last updated: 2011-06-13 12:00 AM

Slept in Pepperell, parents house. Went to bed pretty early.
Got up with plenty of time, had coffee, bagel, and a banana. Eased into the morning, felt very relaxed.
Got to transition with plenty of time, checked in, setup, really liked having more time in transition. Also I like being more comfortable in transition. I have done this a few times now, so there is no surprise. I know what works for me at this point. (But I could be better!)
Ate half a clif blok pak about 30 minutes before the race.
Short run with some strides, probably like 3/4 mile I would guess, didnt time it. Short swim, really short, was getting too close to the race starting.
