Age Group Rank = 8/54
Pre-race routine:

None.
Event warmup:

Swam approx 200 yards.
Swim
  • 09m 15s
  • 580 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

I went out way to fast and by the first bouy I was beat. I settled my pace down a bit, but pushed the whole way.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

I could not get my arms out of my suit until I got the the rippers.
What would you do differently?:

Get new shoes. Work on getting my arms out of the suit better.
Bike
  • 45m 35s
  • 16 miles
  • 21.06 mile/hr
Comments:

Only 3 riders passed me on the bike. I averaged 21 MPH and I felt great. I even kept the pace back just a little so I would have legs during the run. I made sure to drink a full bottle of water (which had one pack of hammer gel in it) during the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

I had difficulty getting my socks on and lost my balance a couple of times. I think I must have wasted 30 seconds trying to get my damn bike shoes off and my running socks and shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

I will get new bike shoes that come off easier and maybe for the shorter distances run without socks.
Run
  • 21m 8s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I pushed this one pretty damn good. I could have maybe given some more, but I was going pretty damn fast for me. I even had a great kick at the end and passed an age grouper.

At mile one, I passed a teammate. He asked for the splits. Normally I never would have given this informtion out, but since he was a teammate, I did. Unfortunately, he passed me. He was the only one who passed me during the entire run.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder the last mile, but not sure I had more left.
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike shoes.
Ability to jump off bike coming into T2.

Event comments:

Two years in a row, the timing was not the best. Participants had to wear a huge (I mean huge) timing chip and I saw a lot falling off becuase the straps were garbage. Better luck next year.
