Pre-race routine:

Up at 5am with a poor night of sleep. I ate a bear claw and had a cup of coffee. I arrived early to get a good spot in the transition area. Found a decent spot and set up. Since I was in the last wave, I went back to my truck at 6:30am to try to catch some sleep. No sleep so I went back to the transition area about 8am.
Event warmup:

Walked alot, a little stretching, a few calisthenics and a brief swim.
Swim
  • 15m 13s
  • 440 yards
  • 03m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

The surf was low. Ran out and was blocked in up to the 1st buoy. After the 1st buoy the congestion broke up and I swam pretty good. Rounded the last buoy swam ok and caught a couple of small waves.
What would you do differently?:

Try to get through the congestion by swimming faster and around the congestion.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Somebody tried to pass me on a turn and I crashed. Fortunately I was only skinned up a little and continued the race.
What would you do differently?:

Next time someone tries to pass on a turn I will holeer "Don't pass me on a turn". If that doesn't work I will steer way clear of them.
Bike
  • 41m 17s
  • 9 miles
  • 13.08 mile/hr
Comments:

I was just glad to be back in the race. I held back a little for the run. Transition 1 time is apparently added to the bike time.
What would you do differently?:

Watch those turns.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition 1 time is apparently added to the bike time. Pretty good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Don't really know what to do different. Thought I had a pretty good T2.
Run
  • 32m 57s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I was a bit tired and my legs were a bit sore. I had to walk a little. I walked maybe 1/8th of the course, (thats an intelligent guesstimate).
What would you do differently?:

Although I did numerous run bike bricks when I trained, it is evident that I need more run to bike bricks in training.
Post race
Warm down:

I walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I apparently need more runto bike bricks.
A crash on the 1st turn sure didn't help anything.

Event comments:

The surf gods were very kind this year. I am greatful because I made a quik recovery from the crash. I burned nearly 1500 calories. I improved my time by approximately 7 minutes over last year.
