Overall Rank = 9/34
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 3/5
Pre-race routine:

alarm at 5:30
PB whole wheat bagel and banana, 8 oz gatorade en route
Event warmup:

15 minute jog to warm up
some body looseners but not much
3 clif shot bloks 5m before gun
Run
  • 22m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

great run, felt good on pace, think could have held on a little tighter on last mile to get that 7:00 split time - this was close though!
What would you do differently?:

Go Faster!
Transition 1
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

good transition - rubber bands on shoes and got into them quickly, only issue was some wobbling on the bike so had to make sure I didn't have other bikes close, think that I may not have gotten right shoe strap down all the way but I didn't notice it at all on ride
Bike
  • 1h 06m 37s
  • 24.86 miles
  • 22.39 mile/hr
Comments:

nailed this one - 22mph bike split better than expected, and felt like a comfortable pace, shifting forward and backwards in seat but didn't slow me down, got really good blast on last 205 underpass hill
turnarounds were good, out of saddle after turns to get back to speed
What would you do differently?:

push into a smaller rear wheel cog to go faster
Transition 2
  • 02m 1s
Comments:

Finally got the dismount nailed
Run
  • 49m 34s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

even though I didn't get that 7:00 split time, I gave everything I had here - by the end I could tell there was nothing left in the tank - got some stomach/side cramping in last mile, quads started cramping a bit as well
took a gel shot before mile 4 which gave me the boost I needed to finish
What would you do differently?:

take another gel shot after mile 2 or 3
would like to say go faster but not sure if I could have
Post race
Warm down:

walking around
water, musclemilk shake
stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

hard time drinking at aid stations at this pace, harder than during marathons, so using gels might be good option on the 10K, was easier than trying to drink and don't want to slow down to drink

Event comments:

great race - felt really prepared for this one
got 2nd place age division medal
best race yet and really felt like the pieces are coming together for this sport
finished 9 of 34 overall
finished 5 of 22 overall males
