Swim
Comments: Wow the swim was a bit rough! Not wearing a wetsuit meant a bit cold on top of not having the oxygen I'm used to. Had to do breaststroke until I hit the first buoy and was finally able to get into a freestyle groove. Goggles fogged up a lot and sighting wasn't great. Definitely not the swim performance I was hoping for, but since I hadn't trained a lot for the swim it was overall not a surprising performance. What would you do differently?: Train more! Treat goggles prior to swim to avoid fogging. Transition 1
Comments: Not having a wetsuit meant I had one of the fastest T1 transition times! Gained a place in T1. Hubby caught a picture of me smiling as I was running the bike so I was feeling good, and happy to be done with the swim! What would you do differently?: Nothing! Bike
Comments: As a new biker I had set high hopes for beating a 1hr 30min bike time, which was pushing the envelope since I hadn't been able to maintain that pace in training. I beat that goal by over a minute! Got passed a lot more than I passed people on the bike, and my only thought was "wow, did I really beat all these people out of the water?" :) Gave props to the guy doing the ride in his flip flops! Only issue was about 1/2 way through the ride I realized I had to use the little girls room, and wrestled with "do I stop drinking?". Decided to keep drinking to avoid getting dehydrated on the run. What would you do differently?: Make sure bladder is tooootally empty before starting race! Transition 2
Comments: Got my socks and shoes on and was off! Port-o-loos were a bit out of the way so I just took off on the run! Run
Comments: Thankfully there was a port-a-loo on the run, though there was someone in front of me so this cost me a bit of time. I had heard about this hill from others and found a comporable hill (according to mapmyrun) near me and had been running it 2x/week for the previous 5 or so weeks. Turns out the hill I had been training had a part that was waaaay steeper than the race, so this hill felt like cake! I had been hoping to beat 1 hour for the run, which I thought was pushing it since it was a faster pace than I had been hill training at, and I totally conquered that time! The run felt just great. Oh! And I ran with my daughters sippy cup and blasted by every aid station :) Passed lots of people on the run! Crossing the finishing line felt amazing, I still can feel what that smile felt like splitting my face. What would you do differently?: Nothing! Post race
Warm down: Got in the car and drove to Utah and Idaho! This race was the pre-quel to a two-week road trip. Event comments: Great first triathlon that I really trained for! Signed up in May for this distance which was totally beyond my ability, and following the training schedule here on BT totally prepared me. I was hoping to have a 3:15 race time and beat that goal by 5 minutes! Can't wait to do this again next year, a better swimmer, biker and runner! Last updated: 2011-06-14 12:00 AM

Age Group Rank = 14/24
We camped about 2 miles down the street. Woke up about 4:30 and had some coffee, 1/2 a pb&j and a granola bar. Packed up my bag and rode my bike to the race!
Set up in transition and did 5-10 minutes of slow jogging prior to getting in the water to get blood flowing.
