Overall Rank = 42/454
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 101/36
Pre-race routine:

Had breakfast: 2 french toast, tea, some other stuff. Read War and Peace. Watched others race. My time slot was the very last wave at 10:20. And the 2nd transition area window closed at 9. Lot's of waiting around.
Event warmup:

Ran for a couple minutes. Did some calesthenics.
Swim
  • 05m 19s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Only 3 of us in lane and I was first. I had a great swim. The guy behind me kept me going fast. I messed up on lap counter and some breaths. I was just swimming hard and not concentrating on other stuff. I'd like to get to a point where I can swim hard in a race, and be able to be more mindful of things.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Training is paying off.
Transition 1
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

Slow time. I think this cost me 2 places. But I decided I would put my HRM on, and Tri shirt, and socks. This was the only disapointing part of my race.
What would you do differently?:

I wanted HR data. Maybe next time I'll see how swimming with the Tri Shirt is so I can save that step.
Bike
  • 35m 29s
  • 11.44 miles
  • 19.34 mile/hr
Comments:

I just rode as hard as I could. Had to slow down twice at lights as I wasnt sure what police was going to do.
Good ride. I need some more bike fitness. This was really good for first hard ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

this was quick and easy. Undid shoe straps, but only got one foot out before dismount. Had 2 people pass me. Had to have a gel 75% through first lap. Maybe a bit too much water toward end as i felt a bit full running.
Run
  • 13m 6s
  • 1.77 miles
  • 07m 24s  min/mile
Comments:

Beat last year! Even after surgery and not running faster than 8:30 in training.
I just ran. Turned out to be pretty fast. Toward end I saw bikers who passed me. One was not too hard to pass, he was actually my pusher in swim lane. The other guy I didn't pass. He had about 2 minutes on me at start, and finished 8 seconds ahead.
Post race
Warm down:

Talked to guy I didn't catch. He shook my hand and thanked me for a great competition.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just training.

Event comments:

PR, and under an hour. Finally met my goal. Now it's time to start moving up AG. I was bummed though. Bettered my time by about 3:30 minutes, yet fell 4 AG places, and 3 overall places.
It was a great race considering my surgery and thinking I wasn't at same fitness level as last year. Too bad it rained last year.
