Swim
Comments: Felt pretty good on this one. Went about as fast as I expected. What would you do differently?: Spend more time in the pool to get faster. Transition 1
Comments: Decent speed for putting bike shoes on in transition. What would you do differently?: Need to work on flying mount. I keep putting it off, and it's giving my competition ~30 secs. Bike
Comments: Was pretty happy with my bike here. The course has a few rolling hills, making for some fast and slow spots. Felt pretty strong here. What would you do differently?: Keep improving here. One day getting a tri bike will help as well. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good T2. Pretty much got this part of the race down. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: There was a bit of a hill in the first mile that made getting my pace going tough. After the first mile I was finally able to get to my race pace. Didn't get the 7:00 pace that I wanted, but felt still achieved my strongest run off the bike. What would you do differently?: I need to practice getting up to speed faster off the bike. Going to do some tough bricks before Heart of Dixie. Post race
Warm down: Jogged about 3/4's a mile before stretching a little bit. After that I enjoyed the post race refreshments as I waited for the awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: There's a real mental aspect to being able to push yourself as you begin to fatigue. I'm getting better at it, but I need to prepare myself to not give in to the desire to slow down on longer races. Event comments: Pretty solid race for being in the middle of nowhere. Got up at 3:30 to start my drive at 4 towards Philadelphia. For long drives like this, I purchase a Starbucks Frappuccino (the new Coconut Mocha if you're curious) the night before, since the good coffee shops don't open until much later.
Did my usual Run, Bike, Swim warmup. Jogged 1.5 miles with race pace intervals, biked for 10 minutes with a few interval sprints, and finally a swim. Shortly after I got out, it was time to line up for the start.
